조선조 국문명필 서기이씨의 생애와 글씨의 검증

국문 초록

이 글은 최근 발견된 『陀羅尼經』의 한글 글씨와 간행기록 내용 검증을 통해 조선시대 제일가는 국문명필로 궁중 至密內人과 서기로 활동한 것으로만 알려졌던 서기이씨의 생애와 글씨에 대하여 처음으로 밝혀낸 논문이다. 지금까지 조선조 국문명필로 평가되는 서기이씨에 대한 생애와 글씨 세계에 대한 논문 및 논단 3편과 봉셔 문헌이 있으나 그의 이름이나 출생기록이 밝혀 진 바 없는 실정이다. 그러던 차에 『陀羅尼經』에 기록된 諺文書寫者의 이름과 출생시기, 다라니경 발문 작성 시기, 다라니경 간행처 등 생애 및 필사시기에 대한 관련 기록사항을 종합적으로 추적 검증하였다. 조선시대 궁체 정자 및 반흘림 서체로 필사한 다라니경의 한글글씨와 기록사항을 통해 서기이씨의 생애와 글씨를 검증하는 방법으로 첫째 Ⅱ장에서 서기이씨 서간문 관련자료와 다라니경의 서지적 사항을 탐색하였고, 둘째 Ⅲ장에서 서기이씨의 생애 관련내용을 봉셔와 다라니경의 내용 중에서 찾아냈고, 셋째 Ⅳ장에서 다라니경의 글씨가 서기이씨 친필임을 자형분석 비교를 통해 검증했다. 이상의 세 가지 내용을 종합하여 검증한 결과 조선조에서 제일가는 국문명필 서기이씨의 이름은 李淡月이고 출생년도는 1826년(丙戌生 : 23대 순조 26년)이며 다라니경에 쓰인 한글글씨는 서기이씨가 51세때인 1876년(26대 고종 13년)에 쓴 것으로 추정할 수 있었다. 이와 같이 서기이씨의 출생시기와 이름이 최초로 추정하여 보았으나, 이에 대한 종합적인 연구나 사적 자료를 더 발굴해야 하는 등 여러 전문가의 심도 있는 연구가 이루어지길 기대 해 보는 것으로 맺음을 하였다.

영문 초록

This article is the first to examine the scribe lady Ms. Lee, the best Korean calligrapher of Joseon, who used to be known only as a court lady and a scribe through investigation on Korean alphabets and records in publication of recently found Darani-gyeong (陀羅尼經). Although there have been 3 theses and forums and references on epistolary compositions so far, her name or birth has not been identified yet. As Darani-gyeong was found, information and records on her life and time of transcription including the transcriber’s name, when she was born and when the epilogue of Darani-gyeong was written and where Darani-gyeong was published were thoroughly tracked and investigated. To investigate the scribe lady Ms. Lee’s life and calligraphy through letters transcribed with block characters and semi-cursive writing with the court style of writing Korean alphabets and recorded items; (i) literature review on Lee’s epistolary compositions and bibliographical study on Darani-gyeong is conducted on Chapter II, (ii) contents related to Lee’s life are found in letters and Darani-gyeong and written on Chapter III and (iii) Korean alphabets on Darani-gyeong are identified as hers through an analysis on shapes of character on Chapter IV. As a conclusion drawn from the 3 aforementioned items; the name of the scribe lady Ms. Lee, the best Korean calligrapher of Joseon, was Lee, Damwol (李淡月) and was born in the year of 1826 (丙戌生: 26th year of Sunjo, the 23rd king of Joseon) and Korean alphabets in Darani-gyeong are estimated to be written in 1876 (13th year of Gojong, the 26th king of Joseon), when the scribe lady Ms. Lee was 51. As shown above, the scribe Lee’s birth and name are first estimated. However, synthetic and further studies by experts are expected with more historical materials.
