협력사의 성과에 관한 연구

국문 초록

최근 정치적 화두가 되고 있는 동반성장 정책은 이른바 ‘양극화 해소’의 정치적 담론아래 사회적 형평성의 관점에서 다루어져왔다. 대기업이 “협력 중소기업의 이익을 일방적으로 착취하고 있으며 대-중소기업간 낙수효과가 부재하다.”는 막연한 정서가 만연하여 대기업에 대한 법적, 처벌적 측면을 지나치게 강조하는 경향이 나타나고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 현재 학계에는 대기업과 협력중소기업간의 진정한 관계분석에 대한 실증연구가 미흡한 실정이다. 이 논문은 삼성전자와 협력사, 계열사의 3자 관계에 대한 학술적 분석을 통해 막연한 정치적 담론에 대해 객관적 증거를 제시하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 기업의 성과를 측정하는 변수로 ROA, ROE, ROS를 사용하였다. 분석결과 첫째, 삼성전자의 협력사의 성장성 지표가 삼성전자보다 높게 관찰되었다. 또 매출 액성장률에 대한 추가적 회귀분석결과 삼성전자와 협력사가 통계적으로 유의한 정(+)의 관계를 보여 양자간에 일정한 상생 및 낙수효과가 발생하고 있음을 보였다. 둘째, 삼성전자 협력사의 수익 성지표가 삼성전자 계열사보다 통계적으로 유의하게 높았다. 셋째, 삼성전자 협력사와 동종산업에 속한 기업들에 대한 비교분석은 엇갈리는 결과를 보였다. 동종산업에 속한 기업의 성과지표가 협력사보다 통계적으로 유의하고 높은 반면 투하자본수익률은 동종산업에 속한 다른 기업보다 삼성협력업체가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 다른 대기업에 대한 추가 연구가 필요하기는 하지만 이 논문은 정서에 의존하는 막연한 ‘낙수효과 무용론’을 근거로 대기업에 대한 법적, 규제적, 처벌적 성격의 정책이 양자간의 대립관계를 영속화 시켜 중소기업 육성에 부정적으로 작용할 우려가 있음을 보여주는 통계적 증거를 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The debate over shared growth policy that has recently become a major political issue is grounded on the notion that “large businesses (buyers) are expropriating profits from subcontracting small businesses (suppliers) and there is no trickle-down effect between the two groups.” As a result, it tends to overly emphasize the aspect of regulating and punishing large businesses, losing sight of the overall direction in framing genuine policy measures to promote small businesses. At present, however, there is a lack of empirical studies that analyze the real relationship between buyer and supplier. The findings of the analysis are as follows: First, the profitability index of Samsung Electronics was higher than that of its suppliers, whereas the latter’s growth index was higher than the former’s. The result of an additional regression analysis on the growth rate of sales indicated a statistically significant positive relationship between the performances of Samsung Electronics and its subcontractors and in turn the presence of a certain degree of shared growth and trickle-down effect. Second, the profitability index of Samsung Electronics’s supplier exhibited a statistically higher than its subsidiaries. Except for 2008 and 2009, its subcontractors consistently showed a higher level of growth index. Third, a comparative analysis of Samsung Electronics’ supplier and companies in the same industry indicated a result disparate from the foregoing findings. The growth index of the latter was statistically more significant and higher than that of the former, while the former’s rate of return on investment was higher than the latter’s. The findings of empirical analysis on Samsung Electronics and its subsidiaries indicated that some assertions denying the trickle-down effect, that is, the shared growth effect, do not reflect reality. Although additional research on other large businesses is needed, basically the growth of large businesses was a factor influencing in no small measure the growth and investment of their subcontractors. Therefore, the regulatory, legal, and punitive policies for large and small businesses, based on the idea of the futility of the trickle-down effect, may pose a potential danger of distorting reality and perpetuating antagonism between the two.
