한국 대학생들의 사이버 중독의 측정

국문 초록

최근 국내외 많은 연구자들은 인터넷과 같은 새로운 기술의 매력은 사용자로 하여금 기술의 지나친 과용을 초래할 수 있음을 경고한 바 있는데, 이런 사용자의 통제 불가능하고 잘못된 기술사용을 효과적으로 설명하기 위하여 사이버 중독의 개념이 제시되었다. 본 연구는 Young의 인터넷 중독 조사인 IAT 척도를 연구 맥락에 맞도록 수정한 후 이를 활용하여 인터넷과 모바일 서비스에 대한 사이버 중독을 측정하고자 하였으며 총 841명의 대학생 응답자들이 본 연구의 설문조사에 참여하는 방식으로 진행되었다. 우선 인터넷 중독에 대한 조사 결과를 살펴보면, 심각한 중독 증상을 보인 비율은 전체의 17.1%이었으며, 잠재적 중독위험이 높은 집단은 65.8%에 달하였다. 모바일 서비스 중독의 조사 결과를 살펴보면 그 비율은 각각 9.1%와 21.9%이었다. 본 연구 결과는 또한 중독 유형에 있어서 성별 차이가 있음을 보여주었다. 인터넷 중독에 있어서는 남성 집단의 중독 점수가 여성 집단보다 높았지만, 모바일 중독에 있어서는 그 반대의 결과가 나타나 여성 집단의 중독 점수가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 향후 연구는 인터넷과 모바일 서비스 이외의 다양한 미디어에 대한 중독의 연구를 진행할 필요가 있으며, 성별과 중독간의 관계에 대한 보다 심층적인 연구가 필요할 것이다.

영문 초록

Many researchers have argued that the attractiveness of the Internet could lead to excessive use and the concept of cyber addiction has been proposed as an explanation for uncontrollable and misuse of the media such as the Internet and mobile service. This research tries to explain cyber addiction in the Internet service and mobile service through modified versions of Young’s IAT(internet addiction test) scale. IAT has been considered the most useful for evaluating the addiction of technology. 841 college students(257 for internet service, 584 for mobile service) from metropolitan areas in Korea participated in this research. Among the sample 17.1% had been diagnosed as severe internet addict, while 65.8% of them were classified as possible addict. And 9.1% had been diagnosed as severe mobile service addict, while 21.9% of them were classified as possible addict. The result also showed gender differences in addiction types. Male group is suffered from internet addiction than female group is. On the contrary, female group reported the higher mobile addiction score compare to the male group. Further study is needed to investigate another type of media addiction and the relationships between user’s gender and addiction in detail.
