국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 중국계 중도입국청소년들과 그들의 부모를 심층 인터뷰하여 공통으로 드러난 의미를 중심으로 부모들이 자녀의 한국사회 적응을 위해 어떠한 역할을 수행하여야 하는가를 탐구하는 것이다. 예컨대 중도입국청소년들이 입국 초기에 새로운 가족구성원으로서 재사회화를 경험할 때 그 부모들은 어떠한 역할을 수행하였는지, 그리고 그 경험은 어떠한 양상을 보이는지, 부모가 수행한 역할과 실제 자녀가 기대하는 부모의 역할 수행과는 어떠한 차이가 있는지에 초점을 두었다. 연구 결과, 부모들은 자녀가 한국으로 이주하기 전 본국에서의 물질적 지원자 역할, 통제자의 역할, 방관자의 역할을 한 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 자녀가 한국으로 이주한 후에는 자녀를 한국사회에 적응시키기 위해 문화의 전수자 역할, 문지기역할을 수행한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 시간이 지남에 따라 갈등 조정자 역할, 물질적 지원군 역할을 한 것으로 드러났다. 그뿐만 아니라 정보제공자 역할 및 감시자 역할이라는 의미로 구성되기도 했다. 결론적으로 부모의 역할 수행에 따라 자녀의 적응 정도가 다르게 나타난 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이를 통해 중도입국청소년의 한국사회 적응에 있어서 부모 역할을 위한 체계적인 교육 및 컨설팅 프로그램이 요구된다는 사실을 도출할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The study explores the parents’ role for their children’s social adaptation in the Korean society. The children visited Korea in order to live with their mother from China. For the purpose, an in-depth interview has been conducted with five parents with mid-entry immigrant youths living in Incheon. Queries were focused on how the parents acted during the socialization process and the communication of their children with new family members in various relationships, what aspects of such experience were evident, and if there looks any variance between the roles played by the parents and the expectation that the children had. The findings from the study suggest that before immigrating to Korea, the parent’s role were diverse as a breadwinner, as a caretaker, and as a controller. And, after the teenagers moved to Korea, for the sake of their children’s social adaptation the parent’s roles were found to be changed to a cultural operative and as a custodian. Over the time, their roles turned out to be not only as conflict manager and the wage earner but also as informants and monitor for their children. As a result, it could be observed that the degree of child’s adaptation varies in accordance with the parent’s role. From this perspective, a systematic training and consulting programs for the parent’s role appears to be necessary to facilitate the social adaptation of mid-entry immigrant youths in Korea.
