국문 초록

본 연구는 사회 경제적 요인들과 유권자들의 무상급식 주민투표 참여 행위 사이에 어떠한 관계가 존재하는지를 실증적으로 분석하였다 우선, 집계자료를 이용한 회귀분석으로부터는 투표 참여 행위를 결정짓는 요인들을 식별할 수 없다는 점을 지적하였다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위해서 미시자료에서 도출된 개인별 특성 변수의 분포에서 얻어지는 지역별 투표율 예측치와 실제 투표율을 서로 일치시키는 방식을 이용해 모수를 추정하는 방식을 제안하였다. 재정패널을 이용하여 얻어진 실증분석으로부터 소득과 부동산 자산 등 경제적 변수들이 투표율과 유의한 관계를 가진 반면 다른 인구ㆍ사회적 요인들에 대해서는 유의한 관계를 찾을 수 없다는 결론을 얻었다.

영문 초록

This study investigates empirically the relationship between socioeconomic factors and voters' participation behavior in free school meal referendum. A regression analysis using variables aggregated at a voting district is shown to fail in identifying the true participating behavior in the referendum. To deal with this problem, an alternative estimation strategy combining microdata with voting rates is proposed. More specifically, distribution of relevant voter’s characteristics is derived from survey data to generate a predicted voting rate, and an estimator is defined as one minimizing the gap between the predicted voting rate and the actual voting rate. From an empirical analysis using National Survey of Tax and Benefit (NSTB) , it is concluded that economic factors such as income and real estate wealth are significantly related to voting rate while other sociodemographic characteristics do not show significant relationship.
