다문화 교육에서 다문화 공간의 교육적 의미 탐색

국문 초록

이 논문은 다문화에서 ‘다문화 공간’의 교육적 의미에 대해 살펴보았다. 다문화 교육의 문제점 가운데 하나가 문화에 대한 의미가 명확하지 않다는 것이다. 이같은 문제점을 개선하기 위해 본 연구에서는 문화를 ‘인간의 전체적인 삶의 양식이자’, ‘인간이 거기-있음(being-there)’의 문제로 정의했다. 그것을 통해 인간이 어디에서 어떤 삶의 양식을 갖고 있는지를 물을 수 있었고, 다문화에서 공간의 중요성에 대해 설명하였다. 다양한 문화에서 생산하는 ‘이야기(narrative)’를 통해 ‘결과에 대한 교육’이 아니라, ‘과정에 대한 교육’이 중요함을 역설하였다. 사회적 소수자와 동일자 간의 관계가 독립적인 주체로서의 관계로 복원되어야 함을 말하였다. 나아가 이같은 다문화에 대한 인식을 토대로 다문화 교육은 외국인과 결혼이주 여성을 대상으로 하는 것에서 더 나아가, 사회적 소수자를 대상으로 해야 함을 주장하였다.

영문 초록

This paper inquires into significance of ‘multi-cultural space’ in multi- cultural education. One of the controversial points of multi-cultural education is that it has unclear definitions on culture. As an effort to improve the problem, culture is in this paper defined as a matter of ‘general ways of human life’ and ‘man’s being-there’. Using this new definition of culture, the ways and the places of human lives could be investigated and significance of space in multi-culture was interpreted. Explorations on ‘narrative’ stemming from the diverse circumstances of culture emphasize the importance of ‘education of processes’ rather than that of ‘education of outcomes’. Relations between social minority and Us are stated to be restored into the relationship of independent subjects. In addition, multi-cultural education based on this definition of multi-culture contends that subjects which have been confined to aliens and international female spouses should be extended to include social minority.
