국문 초록

스코보로다는 우크라이나 출신으로서 키에프에서 수도자 과정을 마쳤지만 서구 문물을 접한 뒤 계몽사상을 전파하고 철학자이자 시인으로 활동했던 전설적 지식인이다. 18세기 소크라테스라고 불리웠던 그는 물질과 정신을 하나로 묶는 범신론적 접근을 보이면서도 자연의 합법칙성을 인정한 뒤 이성을 존중하고 유물론적 경향을 보이기도 하였다. 사유의 요지로는 근원적 자연에 대하여 존재론적 이원론의 입장을 취했으며 다시 세상를 크게 세 개의 범주인 대우주(자연), 소우주(인간) 그리고 상징권(성서)으로 분류하는 독창적인 정의를 내리고 있다. 종교적으로는 강직한 신념을 가지면서도 가치관에 있어서 기존 행태를 신랄히 비판하였다. 또한 사회적으로 사랑과 덕성에 입각하여 도덕적 힘에 의해 변혁을 모색했던 유토피아적(空想的)자세를 취했다. 스코보로다 연구의 가시적 특징은 학문의 영역과 한계를 넘나드는 장르적 초월성을 먼저 지적할 수 있다. 그의 필력에는 고전과 교회어가 빈번히 구사되며 문학적 스타일이 언제나 고수되어진다. 철학적 개념과 명제, 논리적 시스템을 내세우는 대신에 추상, 상징, 은유가 빈번한데 따라서 그의 철학에는 논리적 인식의 측면과 더불어 내적이고 직감적이며 신비적 성향을 보이고 있다. 이외 특징으로는 스코보로다 학설의 주요 관점들이 상호보완적이며 동시에 의존적인 관계에 놓여있다 라는 점이다. 혹자는 이를 두고서 사상의 구조와 체계에 대한 불확정성, 이중성에 대한 비판을 가하기도 하지만 이에 앞서 이론 전개의 일부이자 독특한 서술양식에 대한 전제를 감안한다면 오히려 학설의 도출과정을 입증하며 결과가 양산되기까지 그 치밀성을 계측케 하는 척도일 것이다.

영문 초록

This study is an article about the eminent Ukrainian philosopher and poet Hrihoryj Skovoroda, a major figure in the history of Ukrainian and Russian literature and philosophy. A considerable number of writers and poets sought inspiration in the rich legacy of his life and of his writings. All of Skovoroda's philosophical and theological are in dialogue form. He expresses his ideas mostly through images, symbols, proverbs, and stories instead of philosophical concepts and propositions. Specially the symbol as a vehicle of philosophical though can be taken to mean more than on thing, thus making it difficult and sometimes impossible to say categorically what Skovoroda means. There is no sharp distinction between Skovoroda's literary and philosophical works. Also Skovoroda's songs and poems composed in a language close to the ukrainian vernacular, became popular among the common people. His philosophical works consist of a treatise on Christian morality and 12 dialogues. Skovoroda's thought has been interpreted in different ways. There have been disagreements about the character of his metaphysical doctrine (dualism/monism,idealism/semimaterialim) The moral teaching rests on a dualistic metaphysics. He divides reality into three isomorphic worlds: the macrocosm or the all encompassing universe, the human microcosm or man, and the symbolical microcosm or bible. All three worlds have an inner and outer, spiritual and material, intelligible and sensible nature. In the macrocosm the two natures are called God and the physical universe. In man soul and body and in the Bible the true and the apparent meaning. He approaches metaphysics and anthropology not as a speculative thinker, but as a moralist. The most abstract disciplines such as logic and methematics are also the least relevant to human existence. Skovoroda's principal interest of philosophy is focused on man's nature and happiness. To reach happiness, some understanding of the world and oneself and an appropriate way of life are necessary. The doctrine of congenial work is the central doctrine in Skovoroda's moral system. At last the ultimate ground for man's existence and fulfilment is God. God cannot be separated from man. Man exists coeternally with God as the temporal manifestation of His power and goodness.
