국문 초록

최근 몇 년 동안 노벨 문학상 수상 후보로 자주 거론되며 한국의 독자들에게도 그 이름이 알려진 아담 자가예프스키(Adam Zagajewski, 1945~ )는 현재 폴란드 문단에서는 물론이고, 세계적으로도 크게 인정받고 있는 시인이다. 제 2차 세계대전이 끝난 뒤 폴란드의 국경선이 조정되면서 고향인 르부프(Lwów)에서 강제로 추방당해야만 했던 자가예프스키는 사회주의 시절 고국을 떠난, 대표적인 망명 작가이기도 하다. 어린 시절 고향을 상실했고, 이후 오랜 세월동안 낯선 공간을 방랑하고, 문화와 문화 사이를 떠돌면서 ‘경계인’으로 살아야만 했던 자가 예프스키에게 가장 절실한 화두는 자신의 뿌리와 정체성에 대한 고민이었다. 이러한 시인의 고민은 스스로의 영적인 근원에 대한 내밀한 탐구와 예술적 감성의 본령을 발견하기 위한 성찰로 이어졌고, 이것은 다시 유럽 문화의 고전(古典)과 걸작들을 작품 속에 다채로운 코드로 접목시키려는 시도를 낳게 했다. 심각한 가치관의 위기에 직면해 있는 작금의 현실 속에서 자가예프스키는 다양한 예술가들을 작품 속에 등장 시킴으로써 인류문화에 위대한 족적을 남긴 거장들과 시공을 초월한 가상의 대화를 시도했고, 그들과의 예술적 교감을 통해 불멸의 미학적·윤리적 가치를 널리 환기시키고자 했다. 이 논문에서는 아담 자가예프스키의 작품 속에서 빈번하게 발견되는 다양한 예술작품들과의 교감의 흔적을 살펴보고, 시인이 타 장르와의 미적인 연대를 통해 궁극적으로 추구하는 예술적 지향점은 과연 무엇인지, 그리고 이러한 상호매체성(intermediality)을 통해 드러나는 시인의 예술관은 무엇인지 분석해보았다.

영문 초록

Adam Zagajewski(1945~ ) is a renowned poet, both in his native Poland and around the world. Recently he became known to Korean readers after being nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. After the Second World War ended, his family was forced to relocate to the Schlesien region, which had become Polish land following the adjustment of the border line, leaving his hometown of Lwów. During Poland's socialist era, he chose to live in political exile, staying in foreign countries such as France, USA and others for some 30 years. Having lost his hometown in his childhood, he wandered between cultures in unfamiliar spaces for a long period of time. This could mean that he has lived as a 'border man.' With this background, it was inevitable that he would deeply contemplate his own roots and identity, leading him to ponder the source of his artistic sentiment. This, in turn, inspired him to try to graft his works to the classics and masterpieces of European culture in various codes. Zagajewski realized reality was in a critical crisis due to an absence of values. To over come this situation, he tried to form a dialogue with the great masters who had made a great heritage for mankind, by letting various artists appear in his works. He tried to widely awaken the timeless aesthetic values included in the arts through an artistic mutual response. This study examined the traces of mutual responses with various artistic works frequently discovered in the works of Adam Zagajewski. The author will analyze what the poet eventually pursues through aesthetic fusion with other genres, and identify the poet's view of the arts that is shown through such intermediality. The ultimate aim of this study is to attempt an interdisciplinary study between literature and the other genre of arts that goes beyond the scope of comparative literature.
