국문 초록

교회의 정체성과 관련한 예배갱신은 오늘날 모든 교회가 직면한 중요한 과제이다. 이 글은 예배 갱신의 역사를 간략하게 고찰하고, 그 가운데 등장한 복음주의적 예배 갱신의 통합을 개혁주의적 관점에서 비평적으로 고찰한다. 그러고 나서 이러한 고찰과 비평을 바탕으로 오늘날 개혁주의 신앙고백을 따르는 교회들이 어떻게 예배를 갱신할 것인지에 대한 원리와 방향 및 목회적 실천 사항을 제시한다. 지난 반세기 동안 전 세계적으로 진행된 예배 갱신의 방향은 크게 세 가지로 구분된다. 첫째는 로마카톨릭의 갱신 방향이다. 이들은 문화에 대한 적극적인 수용 관점에 따라 예배 회중들의 언어로 예배를 드리도록‘예배의 문화화’를 적극 권장했고, 나아가 개신교의 특징이라 할 수 있는 말씀에 대한 관심과 설교의 회복을 위해 노력해왔다. 둘째는 개신교의 주요교단들의 갱신 방향이다. 이들은 예배 모범서들에 대한 적극적인 관심과 개정보완을 통해서 예배 규범에 따른 예배 갱신을 위해 노력해왔다. 세 번째는 복음주의자들의 갱신 방향이다. 이들은 주로 전통에 대한 관심을 갖고 현대 문화와 전통의 통합 방식을 통해서 조화를 이루는 예배 갱신을 위해서 노력해왔다. 오늘날 교단과 상관없이 많은 관심을 보이는 갱신의 방향은 바로 이 복음주의자들의 통합예배 방식이다. 개혁주의 교회는 이러한 역사적 흐름과 현대 교회 예배 갱신의 흐름 속에서, 교회성장이나 문화 소비주의적 관점에 따라 무비판적으로 갱신을 위해 노력할 것이 아니라, 개혁주의 신앙고백에 부합한 실천을 예배를 통해서 드러내기 위해 노력해야 한다. 개혁주의 신앙고백을 하나의 원리로 축약하기는 어렵지만, 분명한 것은 성경과 삼위일체신앙에 대한 분명한 고백과 확신이다. 이런점에서 개혁주의 예배는 단지 성경적 근거를 찾기 위한 노력을 넘어서서, 성경자체가 예배의 진행과 구성에 핵심을 차지하게 해야 하고, 동시에 삼위 하나님의 주권적 역동적 예배 진행에 참여하는 방식으로 갱신의 방향과 원리를 삼아야 한다. 예배 지도력을 담당하는 목회자들은 특별히 어느 하나의 고정된 모델을 신학적 비평과 상황을 고려하지 않고 답습하기보다는 창의적 분별력을 통해 각자의 예배 갱신을 위해 적극 노력해야 한다.

영문 초록

Contemporary churches embrace a task of renewing the service of worship that has been regarded as a significant sign of identifying church community. Since the Vatican Council II, the last five decades have witnessed remarkable changes in the practice of Christian worship beyond the denominations as results of worship renewal movement. This essay first surveys the brief history of worship renewal mainly in the North America since the early 1960s and then addresses and at the same time criticizes the evangelical integration of worship which is known as 'blended worship' or 'conversant worship' in the light of a Reformed perspective. Based on this historical and critical understanding of worship renewal, this essay suggests new principle and direction to the Reformed churches in Korea by promoting the practices of Reformed worship that is congruent with the confessions of Reformed faith. There have been mainly three directions of renewing Christian worship for the past half a century. First, Roman Catholics has attempted to accommodate to each indigenous worshiping community by promoting inculturation. At the same time Catholic churches have highly been involved in developing the methods and skills of sermon. Second, the Protestant mainline denominations turned back their interests to the formularies or texts of worship service by actively revising and distributing them. Third, the Evangelicals have been attempting to integrate between the legacies of biblical and traditional resources and contemporary culture in and through the service of worship. In the midst of complex and various contexts of worship renewal, Reformed churches should take their own direction not by simply adopting the new trend or style of worship services that have been erupted with the premise of the church growth and consumerism but by creatively articulating the practice of worship congruent with the Reformed confession of faith with pastoral discretion. Although it cannot be simplified into an abstract statement, it is certain that the Bible and the Trinitarian theology are at the core of Reformed understanding and practice of Christian faith. Consequently, Reformed worship must not only attempt to find out the biblical foundations of the practices but also more seriously and actively articulate the ways of how to engage with the Word by placing the scriptures as the main component and content of worship. At the same time, Reformed worship should not be regarded as a professional performance; rather, the assembly must actively participate in the holy acts of glorifying the God Father through the Christ in the help of the Holy Spirit. In conclusion, Reformed worship leaders and pastors should not follow any new and attractive model of the service of worship so much as articulate the service of worship appropriate to their understanding of worship with pastoral discretion.
