미카 6,8b 안에서 표현된 “הצנעַ ”의 본래적의미에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

히브리어 구약성경을 해석하고 이해함에 있어서 제일 어려운 점 중에 하나는 성경 안에서 단 한 번만 나오는 표현(“hapax legomenon”)을 올바르게 번역하는 것이다. 이는 미카 6,8에서도 찾아볼 수 있다. 그것은 바로“צנע”라는 동사에서 파생된 형태인“הצנעַ ”이다. 미카서 이외에 이 동사 어근이 사용된 구절은 단지 잠언 11,2의“צנוּעיםִ”뿐이다. 그러므로 미카 6,8의“הצנעַ ”라는 표현의 의미를 파악하기란 매우 어렵다. 그 이유는 단지 동사 어근이 성경 안 에서 매우 적게 사용되고 있기 때문만이 아니라 히브리어 성경을 다양한 번역한 고대 번역본들 안에서도 이 용어의 뜻을 다양하게 해석하고 있기 때문이다. 더 나아가서는 현대 학자들 사이에서도“הצנעַ ”의 의미를 파악하기 위하여 여러 가지 방법으로 접근하고 있지만 그 뜻에 대한 동일한 의견을 찾아보기 힘들다. “הצנעַ ”의 의미에 대한 이들의 주장은 크게 두 가지로 구분할수 있다. 우선, 전통적인 해석방법을 따르는 학자들은“הצנעַ ”를 “겸손하게”라고 번역하고 있다(참조: 새번역 『주석성경』). 이들의 의견에 의하면, 미카 6,6-8이 전례적인 형식을 띄고 있기 때문에, 이 표현은 이스라엘 백성의 전례 안에서 사용된 전문용어라는 것이다. 반면에 몇몇 학자들은 “הצנעַ ”를 “지혜롭게, 조심스럽게, 신중하게” 등으로 해석(현행적 해석방법)해야 한다고 단언한다. 본 논문에서는 우선“הצנעַ ”(미카 6,8)와“צנוּעיםִ”(잠언 11,2)의 어근인“צנע”의 어원을 고대 근동 언어들과 비교분석하여, 어근 동사가 지혜문학적인 의미를 내포하고 있음을 밝혀낸다. 또한 히브리어 본문(MT)과 그리스어 역본 (LXX)의 비교 분석을 통하여 어근“צנע”가 전례에 쓰이는 전문용어 보다는 지혜문학적인 표현들과 더 긴밀한 연관성을 갖고 있음을 알 수 있다. 미카 6,8에서 “הצנעַ ”는 동사“הללּ”과 연결되어 관용구를 이룬다. 구약성경 안에서 동사“הללּ”으로 구성된 다양한 문장구조는 이 관용구(“חִצנע לֶכת”) 역시 현행적 해석방법에 따라 번역해야 한다는 것을 증명하고 있다. 이 관용구는 구약성경 이외의 문헌, 특히 쿰란 문헌 “공동체 규칙”에서도 여러 번 나타나고 있다. 쿰란 문헌에서 역시“חִצנע לֶכת”는 다양한 지혜 용어들과 밀접한 관계 를 맺고 있다. 이러한 다양한 언어들과 구문론적 고찰을 통해서 본 결과, 미카 6,8의“הצנעַ ”는 지혜문학적 표현으로서, 전통적인 해석방법인 “겸손하게”가 아닌 현행적 의미인 “지혜롭게” 혹은 “조심스럽게, 신중하게, 현명하게”라 고 해석해야한다.

영문 초록

One of the hardest task in translating and understanding Hebrew Old Testament is to translate “hapax legomenon” correctly, which is shown only once in the Bible. This expression is found in Micah 6,8. The word “הצנעַ ” is derived from the verb“צנע”. Other than Micah, the root of this verb only can be found in Proverbs 11,2. So, it is really hard to understand the right meaning in Micah 6,8. The reason is not only this verb root is rarely used in the Bible, but also various old Hebrew Bible versions show various interpretations of this word. Moreover, modern translators approached in many different ways to grasp the meaning of this word, but turned out no same interpretation. These translator’s point is divided into two ways. The traditional interpretation followers translated “הצנעַ” to “humbly” (cf. New translation , CBCK). According to them, Micah 6,6-8 implied ritual form, this special expression was used in Israeli ritual ceremony. Few other translators assert positively to translate this“הצנעַ ” to “wisely, carefully, cautiously” (This is the current way of translation). This study primarily, comparatively analyze the root of“צנע”in“הצנעַ ”in Micah 6,8 and“צנוּעיםִ”in Proverbs 11,2 with ancient Middle and Near East languages, then find out that this root verb implied wisdom literature meaning. Also through comparative analysis between Hebrew Text(MT) and Greek Text(LXX), find out that the root“צנע” is more related to wisdom literature expression rather than ritual special expression. In Micah 6,8, this“הצנעַ ”is linked to verb “הללּ”, then made a idiomatic phrase. Various sentence structures in Old Testament composed by verb “הללּ”testified that this idiomatic phrase (“חִצנע לֶכת”) should follow current way of translation. This idiomatic phrase is showed in other scriptures besides the Old Testament, especially in Qumran scripture “Community Rule” many times. Also in Qumran scripture,“חִצנע לֶכת”is closely related to many wisdom expressions. The result from this study through many languages and sentence consideration is that“הצנעַ ”in Micah 6,8 is the expression of wisdom literature. So it should be translated not to traditional interpretation “humbly”, but to “wisely, carefully, cautiously”, which is the current way of translation.
