문화융합의 관점으로 본 임권택 감독의 〈춘향뎐〉 연구

국문 초록

〈춘향뎐〉은 한국영화계의 거장인 임권택감독이 고전인 ‘춘향이야기’를 가지고 만든 영화다. 하지만 이 영화는 이전 영화들과 몇가지 차이점을 보인다. 먼저 원작에서 그 차이를 보이는데 이전의 작품들이 소설 〈춘향전〉을 원작으로 삼고 있는데 반해 〈춘향뎐〉은 ‘조상현 완판 판소리’를 원작으로 삼고 있다. 이는 판소리의 충실한 재현을 영화에 중심에 둔 감독의 의도를 단번에 엿볼 수 있는 대목이다. 또 〈춘향뎐〉은 극의 형식에서도 액자구조를 취함으로써 이전의 작품들과 변별성을 지닌다. 〈춘향뎐〉은 연기자에서도 이전 작품들과 매우 다른 면을 보이는데, 이전 작품들이 당대 최고의 스타배우를 기용해서 영화를 만든 반면, 〈춘향뎐〉은 16~18세에 이르는 젊은 남녀를 대상으로 신인배우 공개모집을 통해 발탁한 조승후, 김효정을 주연배우로 캐스팅해 화제를 모으기도 했다. 이는 영화 흥행에 대단한 무리수임에도 불구하고, 여기에서 원작에 충실하려는 임권택감독의 강한 의지를 엿볼 수 있다. 이런 도전은 한국영화사상 최초로 칸영화제에 공식경쟁부분에 초청되는 쾌거를 이룩한다. 하지만 이런 도전적 시도에도 불구하고 〈춘향뎐〉은 관객몰이에는 실패한다. 그 원인은 판소리의 대중성의 근간인 웃음의 실종, 판소리 해독의 난해함, 문화상품으로서의 판소리에 대한 이해력 부재 등에서 살펴볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

〈choonhyangdun〉 was made by Im-guentak who is one of the greatest movie director and That was made from the story of “choonhyang” which is one of the favorite and well-known story in Korea . That movie has some kind of different feature with other 〈choonhyang movies〉 fist of all, The original version is different to each other. Original of 〈choonhyangdun〉 was ‘choonhyangga performed by Cho-sanghyun’, The others were 〈choonhyng novel〉 which were so many adaptations. So, It means that The director want to make a movie faithfully with The original which is genre of pansori. and another different point is format of the movie. 〈choonhyangdun〉 has frame structure as a structure of the story. and another is an actor. that is so amazing around that time to the staff and the audience people. there were the rules that ‘choonhyang’ and ‘monrong’ have to casted by the best famous stars. however, Im-guentak audicioned new face to cast his movie. so, cho-sungwoo and kim-hyojung was casted at the movie for the fist time as an actor and actoress, both were main caracters. therefore some challenge for the populeration of pansori, the movie 〈choonhyangdun〉 was failed from the boxoffice. It left some lesson about the pansori and movie as a main genre of culture content field. The first is disappeare of largh, the second is difficulty of pansori and the last is the absence mind of culture content.
