Korean is an agglutinative language, so uses of prepositional particles which play a grammatical role are important. Unlike case particle, auxiliary particle is used when expressing the attitude of a speaker and adding meaning to the proceeding word plays an important role in communication. The purpose of Korean language education is also helping learners to communicate well with accuracy and fluency.
Native speaker can naturally learn meaning, usage limitation, and usage environment of auxiliary particle by language instinct. However, foreigners whose first languages are not Korean have no instinct on auxiliary particle, and it has different grammar characteristics from country to country. Thus, it is necessary for them to have systematic learning on the meaning and syntactic usage environment of auxiliary particle.
-도, -조차, -마저, and -까지, auxiliary particles which foreigners learn in their beginner and intermediate course have similar meanings of [inclusion], and they can replaced from each other. Thus, the foreigners feel difficulties in learning that part, and teachers also feel confused and make mistakes in using those words because they involve complex grammar.
This paper will suggest teaching-learning method using form-focusing approach and various techniques in consideration of universally helping foreigners from various countries to learn -도, -조차, -마저, and –까지 which are Korean auxiliary particles.
