사고의 교육적 의미에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

이 논문은 사고가 교육적으로 어떻게 연관되며 어떠한 교육적 의미를 가지는지를 고찰함을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 현대 교육사상가인 듀이, 립맨, 시걸의 이론을 검토하였다. 듀이는 반성적 사고 개념을 주장하며 활동과 결과 간의 치밀한 논리적 연결을 성찰할 것을 제안하였다. 반성적 사고를 통해 학습자는 논리적 사유능력과 지적 호기심, 지적 탐구방법 등을 발달시킨다. 시걸은 비판적 사고 개념을 제안하며 원칙과 이유에 입각한 객관적인 사고, 공감과 배려의 태도를 통해 학습자가 인지적이며 정의적인 성숙을 이룰 수 있다고 하였다. 립맨은 탐구공동체의 협력적 사고 개념을 논하면서 탐구공동체가 배려, 철학적 성찰 능력, 토론능력, 도덕성 등을 배양할 수 있음을 주장한다. 세 가지 이론을 종합함으로써 본고는 사고는 교육과 필수불가결하게 연결되며 교육목적, 교육내용, 교육방법의 구상과 운용의 실제에서 우선적으로 고려되고 적용되어야 함을 제안한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to show the relevance and meaning of thinking in education. This study synthesizes three modern thinkers on education; Dewey, Siegel and Lipman. Dewey focuses on reflective thinking in which one thinks deeply on causes and effects of things. In reflective thinking, learners develop logical mind, problem solving ability and intellectual interests. Siegel argues that critical thinking is to think on the basis of impartial principles and reasons. Critical thinking develops critical thinking ability and attitude. Critical thinking is relevant with educational contents, manners and goals. Lipman shows that community of inquiry helps learners develop caring ability, philosophical deliberation, discussion skills and morality. Members of community of inquiry learn social solidarity and cooperative thinking ability that are important in social life. This study shows that thinking is relevant with education in many ways and suggests educational aims, curriculum and methods should be based on and utilize thinking activities.
