영문 초록

The aim of this study is to analyze the way of teaching Korean proverbs in Korean textbooks. Proverb Units in Korean textbooks can be divided into three types : the type focused on teaching vocabulary, the type focused on teaching culture, the type focused on teaching grammar. The result of this study shows us the four main problems. First, Korean proverbs are not sufficiently and systematically presented in Korean textbooks for advanced learners. Second, the Korean idioms which are not proverbs are found in proverb units. Third, the explanation of the meaning of each proverb is not or uncorrectly given in Korean textbooks. Lastly, teaching-learning activities are mainly focused on understanding proverbs’ meaning.
