영문 초록

Where was Baek-river located? Its geographical designation is one of the important names for determining Baekje history. According to documentary records, Jooryu-fortress was adjacent to Baek-river during the reconstruction period of Baekje. Until now, many researchers have been studying to discover the location of Baek-river. Opinion is divided as to the river’s location, some say Kum-river and others say Dongjin-river. On the one hand, the name of Baek-river has been found in documents after transferring the capital to Woongjin. Until the fall of the Baekje after moving the capital, much evidence supports that Baek-river is Kum-river in Kongju. One of the obvious historical facts is that the Tang, an ancient Chinese empire, invaded through the Baek-river to conquer Sadobi-castle. On the other hand, Baek-river was not Kum-river when Jooryu-fortress had fallen by the Tang forces. Kum-river was called Woongjin-river according to the Chinese documents. Also, there is a record that Tang troops left Woongjin-river in order to go to Baek-river. Therefore, it is obvious that Baek-river is not Kum-river but Dongjin-river.
