영재교육의 핵심

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 영재교육의 핵심부분은 무엇이고, 이 교육과정을 어떻게 수행하는 것이 바람직한 방향인가를 제시하고자 한다. 여러 선진국에서 영재들의 인적 자원 개발 및 육성에 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 왜냐하면, 영재교육을 통한 인재양성이 국가 경쟁력 확보를 위해 중요하지 때문이다. Renzulli(1978)는 영재의 특성을 ‘보통 이상의 지적능력, 창의력, 과제집착력’으로 보았으며, 그 외 여러 학자들의 영재개념을 비교해 보아도 공통적으로 높은 수준의 지적 능력과 창의력을 영재개념에 포함시킴으로써 창의력이 영재의 핵심을 이룬다는 것을 알 수 있다. 체계적인 영재교육을 위해서 다음과 같은 연구와 논의가 진행되어야 할 것으로 판단된다. 첫째, 영재교육을 초ㆍ중등학교는 물론 대학까지 연계성을 유지하면서 어떻게 지속적으로 확대 실시 할 것인가에 관한 논의가 이루어져야 할 것이다. 둘째, 영재를 어떻게 정의하고, 어떻게 판별할 것인가에 대한 논의와 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다. 셋째, 체계적인 영재담당교사의 선정과 훈련이 필요하다. 넷째, 영재교육프로그램 개발 및 추수지도에 관한 연구 및 논의도 이루어져야 할 것이다. 21세기 지식기반사회에서는 창의력교육과 영재교육만이 무한 경쟁에서 앞서 나갈 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study aimed at investigating more effective creativity education, a core of the gifted and talented education. Many other countries are struggling to enhance the gifted education to guarantee the world competitiveness through human resources development. Renzulli(1978) regards the special facets of the gifted as intelligence over average, Creativity, and Task commitment. However, other researchers also include high level of intelligence and creativity to concepts of the gifted. It implies that creativity education is a core of the gifted education(Tannenbaum, 1983; Feldhusen, 1986). Creativity is the ability to produce work that is both novel(i.e., original, unexpected) and appropriate(i.e., useful, adaptive concerning task constraints) (Lubart, 1994; Hennessey & Amabile, 1988; Sternberg & Lubart, 1996). Also, Creativity refers to anything someone does in a way that is original to the creator and that is appropriate to the purpose or good of the creator(Baer, 1997). There are four components: divergent thinking, fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration. Creativity reflects differently according to tasks so that creativity education should be realized as task-specific. Therefore, task-specific creativity instruction model was proposed, and therefore creativity education should be task-specific in general schooling. For more systemic gifted education, the linkage of the gifted education should be ensured from elementary education to higher education, and more effective teacher training or program should be developed.
