전남지역 초등학교 사회과 향토사 교육의 내용과 활성화 방안

국문 초록

이 글은 초등학교에서 향토사 교육이 어떤 내용으로 이루어지고 있고, 문제점은 무엇이며, 향토사교육의 활성화 방안은 무엇인가를 모색하기 위해 작성되었다. 21세기 향토사 연구와 교육의 중요성은 여전히 강조되고 있다. 향토사 교육이 학생 주변에서 쉽게 경험할 수 있는 실증적이고 구체적인 자료를 활용하여 흥미와 관심을 유발하고 역사적 사고력을 신장하는데 필요하다는 관점에서 중시되고 있다. 그러나 향토사 교육의 중요성과 필요성에 비해 실제 초등학교 향토사 교육의 내용이 무엇인지, 또 지역교육청에서 인정도서로 보급하고 있는 지역화 교과서의 기능은 무엇인가에 대해서는 심층적으로 검토된 바 없다. 2007년 개정 교육과정은 국가 교육과정의 ‘대강화’를 지향하였다. 즉 지방, 학교, 교사의 교육과정 결정의 범위를 확대하여 지방화ㆍ분권화ㆍ자율화를 제시하였다. 그 결과 동일한 사회과목이지만, 교과내용은 자기 고장의 사실을 소재로 하여 역사ㆍ지리ㆍ사회현상을 학습할 수 있게 되었다. 이것이 전남지역 초등학교 3학년 『사회과 탐구』에 수록된 지역화 자료이고, 향토사 교육의 내용에 해당한다. 본고는 초등학교 3학년 향토사 교육의 내용과 활성화 방안을 모색하기 위해 전라남도 지역교육청 인정도서 『사회과 탐구』를 분석하였다.

영문 초록

This is written to study what contents the local history education is composed of in elementary school, what its problems are, and what plans to invigorate it are. The study and education on the local history in the 21th century are still emphasized. The local history education has been increasing steadily from the viewpoint that it is needed to motivates students to be interested in the local history using empirical and concrete materials experienced easily around them and to increase their ability to think history. However, it has been never analyzed in depth what the contents of the local history education in elementary school are and what the function of the local textbooks supplied by local educational offices as an approval book is. The 7th revised educational course in 2007 supported that nation's educational course “is practical”. In other words, it suggested localization, decentralization, and liberalization through expanding the range of educational course decided by local, schools, teachers. As the result, despite identical social studies students can learn history, geography, and social phenomena through curriculums which have the facts of their region as materials. That is the localization materials written on Social Studies Inquiry and is equivalent to the contents of the local history education. This analyzed Social Studies Inquiry for the third grade, the local textbook approved by 22 local educational offices in Jeonnam to inquire into the real condition of the local history education for the third grade in elementary school considered as the beginning stage of the history education.
