국문 초록

종래의 불교문화 분류법에는 크게 3가지가 있다. 문화재형태적 분류법과 불교사상에 따른 분류법, 그리고 일반예술분류법이다. 사실이들은 불교문화재분류법이며, 불교문화분류법은 아니다. 때문에 종래의 분류법은 수행과 신행 등의 정신적 문화에 대한 연구는 결여되는 결과를 초래하였다. 위와 같은 이유로 본고에서는 불교문화의 개념정립을 위하여 새로운 분류 기준을 설정하고, 신분류법을 '불교문화삼원론'이라고 명명하였다. 분류기준은 불법승 삼보로 설정하였다. 삼보는 각기 고유문화를 갖고 있으며, 동시에 두개의 영역이 형성하는 중첩문화, 그리고 삼보가 융합된 종합문화가 공존하는 것 이다. 이를 불문화, 법문화, 승문화, 불법문화, 법승문화, 불승문화, 삼보문화라고 하였다. 한편, 7개 문화에 속하지 않은 선문화가 있다. 선문화는 이미 독립된 문화영역으로 인지되고 있다. 이로써 본고에서는 불교문화를 모두 8가지 영역으로 분류하였다. 불교문화는 세부적으로 불교문화재(불교예술)와 수행문화, 그리고 신행문화로 구분하였다. 불교문화재는 다시 유형문화와 무형문화로 구분하였고, 유형문화는 일반예술분류법을 취하였다. 이러한 전체적인 세분은 불문화를 비롯한 8개 문화각각의 영역에도 동일하게 적용된다. 8개 문화 가운데 특히 삼보문화는 삼원론의 가장 중심이며, 불교문화의 총집합이다. 불교의례와 불교의식이 이에 해당한다. 스님이 부처님 앞에서 염불하는 불공이나 기도 등에는 불법승이 구족되어 있기 때문이다. 일반적으로 수행과 신행은 구분하지 않고 동등한 의미로 사용한다. 그러나 본고에서는 수행은 실천수행에, 신행은 실천수행의 대상에 중점을 두어 구분하였다. 신행문화의 대상은 부처님의 화신 또는 응신이므로 불문화에 해당하지만, 문화재로 분류할 수는 없다. 왜냐하면 등신불과 불사리는 예배의 대상이지 문화재로서 감상의 대상이 아니기 때문이다. 결론적으로 불교문화란 불교문화재만을 지칭하는 것이 아니다. 불교문화란 '부처님의 가르침을 통한 종교활동(수행과 전법)의 총체적인 표현으로, 종교활동을 통하여 형성된 정신적.형태적 표현'이라고 정의한다.

영문 초록

In Korea, texts related to the study of Buddhist culture are fewer than other areas of Buddhist studies. There are a few synthetic texts that include definitions, issue-values, and study-areas of Buddhist culture; this shows that the infrastructure sustaining to studies of Buddhist culture is unprepared. As a result, a common misunderstanding is that Buddhist culture, Buddhist art, and Buddhist paintings belong to the same category. This problem is also ascribed to the classification of Buddhist culture. So far, most studies have classified Buddhist culture into three categories: classification according to type of cultural assets, classification according to Buddhist thoughts, and classification according to general art s; however, these are not classifications of Buddhist culture. First, these classifications tend to dismiss the mental culture as ascetic training and meditation. It is inevitable to draw a map of concepts r elating to Buddhist culture in order to develop the study of Buddhist culture. This study classifies Buddhist culture as 'The Three Primary Categories of Buddhist Culture' of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Although Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha have developed their own culture , there is also reiteration-culture that is piled up Buddha on Dharma(vice-versa) or Buddha on Sangha(vice-versa) and configuration(culture composed of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha). It addition to these, there is Zen culture in Korean Buddhism. Therefore, this study classifies Buddhist culture as eight areas or categories of Buddha culture, Dharma culture, Sangha culture, Buddha-Dharma culture, Buddha-Sangha culture, Dharma-Sangha culture, and configuration(culture composed of Buddha, Dharma, Sangha) and Zen culture.
