국문 초록

총체적 복음이란 하나님 중심의 신학을 강조하는 개혁신학의 강조를 따른다. 그것은 신자가 중생함으로 말미암아 그의 삶의 모든 부분이 하나님의 통치 아래 놓이게 된다는 점을 강조하는 것이다. 그러한 관점에서 우리는 성경의 복음이 "총체적" 성격을 지니고있다고 말할 수 있다. 그것은 하나님 나라의 관점에서 바라본 복음, 즉 신자의 전 존재와 그의 삶의 모든 영역들 속에서 영향력과 변화를 가져오는 능력으로서의 복음을 가리킨다. 사실, 죄의 영향력이 총체적이므로, 성경의 복음도 총체적일 수밖에 없다. 다시 말하면, 예수님의 구속사역이 총체적이어야 하는 것은, 그것은 이 세상에 끼쳐진 모든 죄의 영향력들과 결과들에 대한 해결책으로서 주어졌기 때문이다. 우리 주님의 복음은 신자의 영적 영역에서 뿐만 아니라, 그의 육체적, 사회적 영역들 속에서의 변화와 회복을 가져오는 능력을 지니므로 총체적 복음인 것이다. 우리는 지난 세기 미국교회의 역사 속에서 이러한 총체적 복음의 성경적 관점으로부터의 이탈들을 두 가지 지적해볼 수 있다: 하나는 복음주의 안에서 발견된 "대반전(Great Reversal)" 이고, 다른 하나는 W.C.C. 운동에서 발견되는 이탈의 모습이다. 전자는 복음주의 안에서 발생되었던 종말론의 변화 등과 같은 움직임과 함께 전개되었던 신학적 양극화 현상 속에서 발견된다. 그리고 후자의 이탈은 그 근본적인 원인들 중의 하나로서 "교리적 무관심"의 원칙을 들 수 있다. 세계 선교운동 속에서 전개되었던 교회연합운동에서 제시된 원칙들 중의 하나는 교파간의 상이한 교리들에 대해서 깊이있는 토론을 배제하자는 것이었다. 그러한 무교리주의적 입장은 다른 종교들까지도 끌어들이는 종교다원주의적 태도에까지 이르게 되었다. 그 결과 W.C.C. 운동은 결국 역사적 기독교가 가르치는 성경적 복음에서 떠나게 되었던 것이다. 다행스러운 것은 지난 세기 중반부터 복음주의권 안에서는 "대반전"의 모습 속에서 지녔었던 자신의 편중된(One-sidedness) 신학의 모습, 즉 복음의 의미를 영적인 영역에서만 간직하고 복음의 대사회적 의의에 대해서 간과해왔던 오류에 대해서 반성하고, 총체적 복음의 관점에서 균형잡힌 복음 이해를 회복하게 되었다. 이제는 W.C.C.가 자신의 왜곡된 복음이해 즉 사회적 책임이라는 명분 아래 사도적 복음의 순수성을 왜곡했던 모습을 반성하고 성경이 제시하는 총체적 복음의 균형잡힌 관점으로 돌아와야할 차례가 되었다고 사료된다.

영문 초록

The Concept of “Holistic Gospel” can be explained from the Reformed emphasis of “God-centered” approach rather than “man-centered” approach. The former approach introduces believer into God-centered being by the work of Holy Spirit in order to be a new creature who lives all areas of his life under God's reign. From that sense, we may call the gospel of Bible as “holistic” gospel. Gospel is understood from the viewpoint of God's kingdom and his holistic reign over the whole being of believer and the whole areas of his life. As a matter of fact, since the effect of sin is holistic, the salvation is to be holistic. In other words, Jesus' redemptive work is “holistic”, because it gave us the answer for the every kinds of problems and effects of sin in this world. Jesus' gospel brings changes in the believer's life in the area of physical, social realms as well as his spiritual life. We may see some deviations from this biblical, historical concept of holistic gospel in the history of american christianity during the last century. There are two deviations: the first is the “great reversal” of the evangelicals, the other is the deviation of W.C.C. movement. The former happened by some reasons, among which the change in the view of eschatology was the major one. On the other hand, the latter happened by many reasons, among which their attitude of“doctrinal indifference” was to be the most fundamental cause. The major goal of W. C. C. was to unite the whole churches and missionary works in the world. Yet, in the process of accomplishing that goal, they tried to ignore the biblical doctrines in order to gather more other denominations and even other religions. As result of it, W. C. C. movement had deviated from the historic, biblical christianity and moved into a mixed religion at the cost of denial of the apostolic faith of the Scripture. During the last century, however, the evangelical began to realized their “one-sidedness” in “Great Reversal”, that is, their ignorance of the social implication of the gospel. As soon as they realized it, they tried to recover what they lost in their gospel life. Now, it is time for W.C.C. to return from “their”one-sidedness and to recover the apostolic message of the gospel.
