국문 초록

종교다원주의에 대한 WCC의 입장은 점진적으로 발전되었다. 초기에는 타종교에 대한 전통적 기독교의 시각이 WCC 내에서 지배적이었다. 그러나 차츰 타종교에 대한 긍정적 태도가 WCC에 파고 들기 시작했다. 처음에는 주로 종교 간의 대화의 필요성을 지적하는 정도에 머물렀다. 그러다가 1960년대에 WCC 일각에서 타종교에 대한 꽤 급진적인 관점이 대두되었다. 종교다원주의적 관점이 소개되었던 것이다. 그러나 그것이 WCC의 다수 입장을 형성하지는 못했다. 70년대 중반에만 해도 종교다원주의를 반대하는 목소리가 여전히 WCC 내에 강력하게 존재했었기 때문이다. 80년 대에 타종교 내의 구원 가능성을 조심스럽게 인정하는 입장들이 몇몇 공식 문서들에 나타나기 시작한다. 그러다가 1990년 바르 선언을 기점으로 WCC의 공식 입장은 종교다원주의로 급격히 그리고 결정적으로 기울어진다. 타종교에 구원이 있을 수 있다는 이러한 주장은 다소 약화된 톤으로 그 후에도 WCC의 권위있는 공식 문서들 속에 계속 표현되었다. 2000년 WCC의 CWME가 연구 문서로 채택한 "일치 속의 오늘의 선교와 전도" 및 2005년 아테네 선교 대회가 발표한 문서도 마찬가지이다. 종교다원주의는 여러 가지 문제점을 가지고 있다. 타종교에 있는 모종의 장점들이나 윤리적 수준, 도덕적 탁월함, 사상적 깊이의 진가를 인식한 나머지 WCC는 너무 성급하게 타종교에 구원의 가능성을 인정하는 인상을 준다. 그것은 성경의 여러 진술들을 부정하거나 상대화하는 결과를 가져온다. 성경은 예수 믿는 길 외의 구원을 얻을 수 있는 다른 길을 인정하지 않는다. 종교개혁자 칼빈도 다른 종교에 구원의 길이 있음을 전혀 인정치 않았다.

영문 초록

The position of the World Council of Church has developed gradually. In its early period the traditional Christian view of other religions was dominant in it. But as time passes on, a positive attitude began to introduce itself to the WCC. At first, it remained, however, at the level of indicating the necessity of the dialogue between the religions. In the 1960s, a pretty radical view of other religions arose in a corner of it. But it could not be its majority position. It means that as late as the 1970s, a strong voice of opposing the religious pluralism existed in it. With the Baar Statement as a watershed in the 1990s, WCC's official position toward the religious pluralism began decisively to incline to its approval. This positive view of admitting the possibility of salvation in other religions continued to express itself in the documents of the WCC. Some of its examples are "Mission and Evangelism in Unity Today" adopted as a document for the study by the Committee of World Mission and Evangelism in the WCC, and the document adopted by the Meeting for the World Mission at Athens in 2005. There are several problems in the religious pluralism. Impressed by the high morality in the teachings of some world religions, some ecumenicals tend to issue the charter too rashly that there is salvation in them. As a consequence, they weakens or relativizes the authority of the biblical statements, which does not allow that there is other way to salvation than that through Jesus Christ. John Calvin did not acknowledge at all the possibility of salvation in other religions.
