국문 초록

한국 평생교육학 분야에서 인종, 종족, 계층, 성의 배경에서 기인한 다문화주의 담론과 다문화 학습에 대한 논의는 시작단계이다. 본 연구는 문화적 다원주의에 기반을 두어 여러 민족과 인종이 함께 모여 사는 사회의 평생교육체제는 어떠한 이론과 실제를 구성하는가에 대한 문제제기에서 출발하였다. 연구의 주요 내용으로 첫째, 평생교육담론에서 전개되는 다문화적 학습 맥락을 이론적 측면에서 고찰하였다. 둘째, 다문화적 사태를 둘러싼 지역사회 중심의 현장의 사례를 참여관찰과 면담조사에 기반을 둔 질적 연구방법론을 통하여 구체적으로 분석하였다. 그리하여 본 연구는 이주노동자 지원센터를 중심으로 이루어지는 이주노동자와 지역주민간의 다문화적 학습 양태, 맥락, 내용 등을 시론적으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과로서 첫째, 이주노동자 지원센터를 매개로 한 상호작용을 통하여 타자화와 갈등을 극복한 학습 역동이 나타났으며, 둘째, 이주노동자와 지역주민들은 문화 다원성을 통한 학습 양식의 재구조화를 경험하였다. 셋째, 지역사회에서 참여와 소통을 통한 다문화적 학습 경험은 인종, 민족, 국적, 언어 등 이질적인 배경과 상이한 경험을 가진 학습자들의 자아와 세계에 대한 비판적 성찰을 수반했다. 궁극적으로 본 연구는 한국사회가 다문화사회로 재배치되는 과정에서 요구되는 평생교육학의 방향과 다각적인 현장 연구의 필요성을 시사하였다.

영문 초록

The international migration shows that our world are increasingly becoming heterogeneous, multi-racial and multi-cultural. The aim of this paper is to understand multi-cultural learning context between a migrant workers' community and local community. Frist, to develop theory and practice of lifelong education in the multi-cultural era, this paper endeavored to examine complex discourse of lifelong education engaging with cultural diversity and multi-culturalism under the global migration impact. Second, as a pivotal theoretical axis, I conducted a qualitative case study with a Migrant Workers'Centre in Seoul to explore a multi-cultural learning context and its border-crossing of different learning experiences between a migrant workers' community and local community. Major findings displayed that lifelong learning and its social opportunity is one of the crucial ways to advance human’s self empowerment and social development appreciating multi-cultural learning experience regardless of geographic location, race, gender and class. Besides, migrant workers and local people could expand their multi-cultural learning competencies reshaping domains and forms of learning. As a multicultural society is an irreversible social condition in contemporary Korea, this paper demonstrate that social engagements and participation between different agencies in informal learning settings enable diverse people to reconstruct their life experiences and promote a participatory citizenship. Most of all, this paper addresses that current lifelong learning discourse should broaden its horizon enhancing a cultural diversity and social justice interacting with underprivileged migrant workers in the local level.
