국문 초록

본논문은 교황베네딕토 16세인 요셉 라칭거(Joseph Ratzinger)의 신학을 중심으로 신앙의 합리성에 대하여 고찰하였다. 먼저 합리성에 대한 중세와 근대의 입장의 변화에 대하여 살펴보았다. 중세에는 신앙과 이성의 상호 개방성 이라는 전제하에 합리성이 강조된 반면에， 근대에는 이성을 강조한 신앙의 배타적 합리성이 강조된 것으로 보인다. 라칭거는 근대주의적 관점 및 스콜라 신학에 비판적인 자세를 보인다. 그는 신앙이 합리적 비판의 대상이 되어야한다는 변에서，그리고 신앙은 보편성을 갖고 있다는 것을 알려야 한다는 면에서 이성을 요청한다. 아울러 이성 하나로는 완전한 인간을 구성할 수 없기에 이성에는 신앙이 필요로된다. 신앙은 인간에게 궁극적인 의미를 가져다주며 아울러 신앙은 이성을 배제하기는커녕 이성적 작업을 가능하게하는 신학의 근거가 된다. 여기서 이성은 무엇을 파악하는 이성이 아니라 이해하는 이성으로 간주된다.

영문 초록

This paper tries to study the rationality of christian faith according to the Theology of Joseph Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI. At first, the difference of the view points between middle and modem age are considered in regard to the rationality, In the middle age the openness is presupposed to each other, while in the modem age exclusive rationality was emphasized in regard to the faith, Ratzinger, influenced by St. Bonaventura, shows his critical position to the modernistic approach and scholastic method, He insists on the other that the faith requires reason in two aspects ; one is that the faith should be the object of rational criticism, and the other one is that it should be shown through the reason that the christian faith has universality. Further, the reason alone can not constitute the whole human, the reason needs faith, that gives the ultimate meaning to human being. The christian faith does not exclude the human reason, but the fundament for the christian theology. According to Ratzinger, the role of the human reason does not lie in grasping and knowing the faith but in understanding.
