독서 관련 신문 보도의 특성에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 한국 신문의 독서 관련 보도 특성을 규명하는데 초점을 두었다. 본 연구는 2개 언론사, <동아일보>, <한겨레 신문>을 대상으로 2009년 1월1일부터 2009년 12월 31일 보도된‘독서’관련 보도를 분석하였다. 분석 결과 다음의 결과가 나타났다. 첫째, 한국신문의 독서 관련 보도는 피상적인 특성을 보여 주었다. 독서 관련 보도의 피상성은 특성 소재의 집중보도, 기자 의존적인 보도 관행, 스트레이트 지향적인 기사 등으로 나타났다. 이러한 현상은 독서 관련 기사가 신문은 단순 서평이나 독서 관련 행사를 소개하는 식의 단순한 정보 제공자 기능에 머물게 하였다. 둘째, 한국 신문의 독서 관련 보도는 주로 책소개에 집중되었다. 이러한 경향은 보도의 다양성을 저해하는 요소로 작용하였다. 향후 신문은 독서와 관련 다양한 소재를 개발하는데 관심을 두어야 할 것이다. 마지막으로 독서 관련 보도에서 신문사별 차이가 나타났다. 독서 관련 보도에 있어서 동아일보는 비판적이고 심층적인 기사를 실어내고 있는 편인 반면에 한겨레 신문은 동아일보에 비하여 단순한 책 소개에 치중하여 피상적인 접근에서 벗어나지 못하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristic features which were shown by newspapers in reporting book-reading issues. Data were collected by analyzing the relevant articles released by and from January 1st to December 31st of 2009. The analyses showed the following results. First, book-reading articles were found to be superficial. This trait took roots in a close relationship with the tendency of focusing on special topics, the tendency of depending upon reporter's personal opinions, and the tendency of using straight descriptions. Because of this nature, book-reading articles were destined to do a limited function of an information deliverer. Their function were as much limited as to the comments on best-sellers and the advertisement of book related events. Second, book-reading articles were found to focus on the introduction of newly released books. This trait was often pointed by experts to hinder the development of diversity of book-reading articles. Newspapers were expected to be more concerned to find out a spectrum of book-reading issues. Finally, book-reading articles were found to show different orientations according to the companies. Book reading articles of showed critical and in-depth orientations. However, those of , mainly focusing on the introduction of newly released books, showed superficial orientations.
