국문 초록

고려는 외세의 힘을 빌리지 않고 자주적 통일을 이룩한 국가라는 점에서 민족사적 의의가 있다. 고려는 유교와 불교를 바탕으로 종교적 이념을 초월하여 미증유의 문화 업적을 이룩하였다. 금속활자의 주조와 신비한 고려청자, 불화와 사경 그리고 대장경 목판은 고려의 문화를 대표하는 것들이다. 이러한 화려한 문화적 성취에도 불구하고, 줄곧 고려의 문화는 중국문화의 범주 안에서만 논의되어 왔음을 반성한다. 이에 입장을 달리하여, 고려와 중국과의 대외교섭을 논하는 것이 본고의 목적이다. 교섭이란 어떤 목적을 가지고 서로에게 관계하는 것을 말한다. 즉 문화의 수용과 전래는 일방적으로 이루어질 수 없으며, 상호 교섭을 통해서만 가능한 것이다. 따라서 일방적이 아닌 대등한 입장에서의 문화교섭을 다루고자 하였다. 이를 위해서 먼저 정치적으로 고려의 자주성을 살피고, 이어 고려 문화의 우수성을 증명한 뒤, 그 영향을 역설하고자 하였다.그 결과 고려는 내적으로는 통일국가로서의 면모를 과시하며 안정적인 체제를 유지하고자 하였으며, 대외적으로는 문화적 자주성을 표방하였다. 외래문화는 안정된 체제 속에서 토착화되어 수준 높은 문화를 형성하였고, 이는 다시 중국과 일본 등에 영향을 끼쳤다. 특히 불교문화에서 이러한 면이 두드러졌다. 서예에서도 초기에는 통일신라 때 전해졌던 초당의 서예가 토착화되는 가운데 새로운 문화가 첨가되고, 후기에는 원나라의 서예문화를 주체적이고 능동적으로 수용하여 사회변화를 도모하였다. 고려의 서예는 초당의 서풍이 깊이 착근되어 사경과 불교 경전의 판각 으로 꽃을 피웠다고 할 수 있다. 특히 사경은 서예의 대외적 교섭의 화두로서, 중국 불교에 큰 영향을 끼쳤다. 이로써 고려의 문화적 독자성과 능동적인 자세를 발견할 수 있었다.

영문 초록
