국문 초록

헝가리 개혁주의는 문학을 통해 사회개혁을 시도하는 시기이다. 커 토나 요젭의 희곡 작품 『반크 반』은 개혁주의 시기를 대표하는 가 장 성공적인 작품이다. 작품이 발표된 지 200년이 지났지만 지금도 헝 가리 내에서 가장 많이 공연되고 있으며 상시 극으로 확고한 자리를 잡 고 있어 민족 극이란 명성을 얻고 있다. 반크는 13세기 실존인물로 독일 출신의 왕비인 게르트루드를 시해 한 인물이다. 커토너 요젭은 그를 통해 19세기 합스부르크의 지배하에 있던 조국 헝가리의 독립 염원을 작품에 투영했다. 19세기 헝가리 인 들에게 주어진 시대적 요구를 작품 안에 승화시켜 문제의 해결과정을 치밀하게 그려내었을 뿐만 아니라 해결 방법까지도 제시한 작품으로 평가받고 있다. 『반크 반』은 사회개혁이라는 목적을 가진 개혁주의의 산물이면서 도 최고의 예술성과 작품성을 동시에 보여준 작품이다. 이에 따라 비평 가들은 이 작품의 비극성에 주목하기도 하고 또 역사성에 무게 중심을 두고 평가하는 경향을 보여 왔다. 본 논문은 이와 같은 기존의 평가를 수용하면서도 작품 전체를 관통 하고 있는 등장인물 사이의 갈등 양상과 원인, 그 전개과정을 중심으로 분석하였다. 외세와 헝가리 사람들 사이의 갈등, 그리고 이를 상징적으 로 내포하는 등장인물 사이의 갈등구조와 극적 반전을 통한 해결과 화 합을 분석함으로써 이 작품의 가치를 확인해보고자 한다.

영문 초록

This article aimed to evaluate József Katona's drama Bánk bán . Katona was the hungarian famous dramatist of the ReformEra in the 19. century. He wroteBánk bán for the new-born literature magazine Erdélyi Múzeum's drama contest in 1815. At the contest, he had not any answers from the related authority. But he got his friend's comment, revised the drama extensively in 1819. At last the drama was printed in 1821. ThenBánk bán performed in many places. In these days, Bánk bán is the most popular performance in Hungary. In this article I try to classify the conflict between the characters. The hero, Bánk, the second person in Hungary, was in trouble with the king's wife, Gertrudis. She came fromMerania, she gave a luxury party every day to overcome her loneliness. A foreign queen appealed to Hungarian of the past century to remember anti-Habsburg feelings. Her brother, Otto seduced Bánk's wife, Melinda with medicine. Bánk confronted with two problems, One is a social, the other is an individual. He fell into suffer and decided to meet queen. In the meeting, he killed queen and the rebellion broke out. From the prologue to 4-th scene, many people have a trouble with another. At last 5-th scene King came back to Hungary and tried to find out, who killed the queen? Bánk confessed his crime, King wanted to fight with Bánk for his wife's honour. At this moment people carried Melinda's corpse inside. King lost his wife, Bánk lost his wife, too. King forgave Bánk, because they all lost their precious wives. The highest conflict between King and Bánk solved unexpectably. King realized the tragedy's cause was queen. King said, "It was just that the queendied, otherwiseour countrywould have perished." Through this sentence, Katona believed that Hungarian will survive and Hungary will progress in the future. Katona wrote for the survival of Hungary. He thought the literature's aim was the reality's reformation. It was the faith of ReformEra's Literature. He wroteBánk bán to exclaimthat Hungary should be an independent nation. And Hungarian should collect the power in order to expel Habsburg.Bánk bán was the best drama, in which Hungarian can see the great hope. This is one of the greatest works of his age and Hungarian Reform Era.
