국문 초록

이 연구는 한국에서의 어린이철학교육의 수용과정과 그 성격을 구명함으로써 어린이철학교육이 한국의 교육 실정에 맞는 교육 패러다임으로 정착될 수 있는 단초를 제공하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 어린이철학의 가능성에 대한 논의는 그리스의 에피쿠로스(Epicurus)로부터 시작되었으며, 현대에 이르러서는 미국의 립맨이나 IAPC를 중심으로 전개되고 있다.이러한 최근의 흐름은 ‘어린이를 위한 철학’과 ‘어린이와 함께 하는 철학’으로 구분된다. 한국에서의 어린이철학은 주로 번역을 통해 소개되다가,시간이 지나면서 전문 학자들을 중심으로 이론적인 연구가 수행되었다. 한국에서의 어린이철학교육의 수용은 어린이의 재발견을 가능하게 하였고,사고력교육,토의·토론학습,도덕교육 등에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으나,한국적인 교재 및 프로그램의 부족,비판적·성찰적 연구의 미흡,이론적 연구와 현장의 괴리,공교육 차원의 지원 부족 등으로 인해 교육현장에 성공적으로 정착되지는 못하고 있다. 앞으로 어린이철학교육이 이러한 과제를 해결하고 성공적으로 전개될 때 어린이철학교육은 우리 교육의 새로운 교육패러다임으로서의 기능을 다하게 될 것이다.

영문 초록

This study aims to prov idea foundation of‘philosophy education for children’in Korea,through examining aspects and characteristics of acceptance of‘philosophy education for children’as they apply to Korea. The possibility of‘philosophy education for children’has been discussed through out history from Epicurus,anancient Greek philosopher through to modern times.It is still actively discussed by many scholars,especially Lipman in the U.S. and IAPC. Recently the idea of‘philosophy with children’has developed out of the idea of‘philosophy for children’and these conceptions are clearly distinguished. In Korea the idea of‘philosophy for children’was introduced through translations of related materials,ie.,books,journal articles,etc.,and has been investigated theoretically by professional scholars. The idea of‘philosophy education for children’made possible a new understanding of“children”and positively contributed to teaching for thinking, discussion learning and moral education. However it could not planted its roots deep into Korean education because of a shortage of locally contextualized materials and programs, in sufficiency of critical and reflective researches, theories disconnected from educational practice,and the lack of support by educational authorities. A vibrant philosophy education for children will be able to function as a new educational paradigm if it over comes the abovementioned problems.
