동학 시천주(侍天主) 사상의 교육적 함의

국문 초록

동학의 교육 사상은 시천주(侍天主)이라는 말에서 비롯된다. ‘시천주’는 인간을 한울의 이치․기운에 의해 생겨난 유형 존재로서, 태어날 때부터 한울을 몸 안에 모시고 태어난 지극히 존귀한 존재로 인식하는데서 출발한다. 인간이 수행을 통하여 한울을 모신 존귀한 존재임을 깨닫고, 스스로의 향상과 완성을 추구하고, 나아가서는 한울의 나라를 실현한다는 마음가짐으로 이상적인 삶을 살아갈 수 있도록 이끌어주는 것이 시천주 사상이며, 이는 궁극적으로 인간성 교육으로 구현될 수 있다고 본다. 시천주 사상의 교육적 함의로서 인간성 교육은 자아 각성의 교육, 인격 형성의 교육, 수행 교육으로 구분할 수 있으며, 이러한 영성적이고 도덕적인 삶의 실천을 통하여 자신의 무한한 잠재력을 생활 속에 실현하는 것을 교육의 목적으로 하고 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this article is to study the Shicheonju thought and inquire into its educational implications in the aspect of human education. The Shicheonju thought contains educational implications such as awakening of self, formation of personality, and practice of austerities in the aspect of human education. Education for awakening of self makes us pursue infinitude of human which would become one with Hanul through innate awakening. The innate awakening makes us be in harmony with each other by judging substances of individual life from communal point. Education for formation of personality took the focus on modelling human himself upon God. So human can cognize all the matters with priority given to human. The purpose of human life is to form human personality, which we could form by realizing that the universe is one living thing and the individual life of human would be in accord with the universe under the Hanul's instruction. Education for practice of austerities lets human retrieve his moral life from his material and realistic life. So human can act up to universal principles according to his original nature and be in accord with Hanul by practice of austerities. Therefore, the Shicheonju thought which pursues the humanity education implicates the followings in education；the awareness of infinitude of human through awakening of self, the recovery of human spirituality through formation of personality, and the practice of moral life through education for practice of austerities. In addition, the education based on the Shicheonju thought is very suggestive in that human would be devoted to others, be respectful to his elders, and recognize respect for himself. It is also very suggestive in a community education by which human would be in accord with the nature.
