양명심학에 담긴 만물일체사상의 교육적 의의

국문 초록

본 논문은 양명의 교육론에 대한 구조적 이해를 통해 한국교육에서 관찰되는 천지만물이 일체라는 사상 또는 교육의식의 결정에 영향을 끼친 배경을 밝히고자 하였다. 양명은 주희의 가르침인 격물(格物)의 방법으로는 세상의 만물을 탐구할 수 없음을 깨닫고 심즉리를 주장하였다. 또한 지적인 능력의 배양에 힘을 쏟는 공부는 행동하고 실천하는 인간을 키우지 못하고 ‘배운 도둑들’만 양산하는 것을 보고, 지행합일을 주장하였으며, 범인(凡人)은 양지(良知)인 지(知)가 사욕에 가려져 있어서, 지행합일을 깨닫지 못한다고 보았다. 이 사욕을 제거하여 양지가 들어날 때, 천지만물일체의 세계가 나타남을 양명은 알게 되었다. 따라서 천지만물이 일체임을 실천하는 사람은 대인이고, 천지만물일체의 경지에 이르는 구체적인 방법이 치양지인 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to have a structural understanding of Yang Ming's educational theory of mind-and-heart learning and to explore his influence on Korean education and educational philosophy about Manmulilche that meant all things in the universe were one. He believed that contemporary learning methods just made learners more confused and foolish and ended up failing to let them improve their cognitive ability though they acquired a wealth of knowledge. And he said that despite tremendous efforts of memorization, their knowledge was just superficial, empty and fragmentary. That's also the case for today's education. The basis and root of education have been disregarded in this era as well, and Yang Ming severely criticized that his contemporaries neglected inner things while directing every energy into external ones only, and that they were well-informed yet groundless. Yang Ming sought after a saint as an ideal human image. During his ever-changing, dynamic life, a saint materializes Yangji, the nature of transcendental life that lets him sympathize with all creature. For Yang Ming, a saint refers to a dynamic, down-to-earth person who feels sorry about the injured lives of others and of all natural things, who takes good care of them, and who takes the initiative in bringing them up.
