This paper is examined that The prestige of Korean children's literature and challenges. Korean children's literature was one of the movement of a mass-aducation drives against Japanese colony and one of the proletarian literature by Choi, Namsun and Bang, Jung-whan. Bang Jung-whan had directed and issued a Journal, 'Eurini'(means children as Korean). The Journal had leaded the Korean children's literature in 1920' and 1930' Otherwise, Park, Young-hee and Kim, Gijin had leaded proletarian literature with a journal 'Geabuck' (means the beginning of the world). It influenced on pure children's literature and a journal for children, 'Beulnara'(means a nation of stars). The pure children's literature has dealt with children's simple, honest and naive mind yet, the proletarian children's literature has dealt with children's perception and criticism of reality. Conflict of two of trends pushed the Korean children's literature to adults' literature categories in period of Japanese colony, the restoration of independence and Korean War. Therefore, it was hard to confirm its identity. However, In 1960' Kim Yo-sub, Lee, Won-su, Lee Jea-chul had got a footing of Korean children's literature. In 1970', Lee Oh-duck had drawn out proletarian children's literature conversation and some writers and researchers have concentration on a journal 'Changbi Eurini' to improve interpretation of proletarian children's literature conversation. The two of trends are under of discussion again and that is still a matter of debate. Researchers of Korean children's literature should look back over the past and aim at four challenges below. I hope those would get fruitful discussion. Firstly, researchers should align basic concept, scope and genres of children's literature and enrich critics. Secondly, writers of children's literature should understand media literacy and ponder on how to use it. Thirdly, writers and researchers should write and criticize children's literature based on a view of authentic literacy. Lastly, writers and researchers should deal with ethnicity of Korean to prepare a union of South and North Korea.
