The purpose of this study is to compare Korean folktales appearing on the elementary Korean textbooks with the original texts. Therefore, I consider how the original texts have been altered in the textbooks around the characters and plots of the stories. Oneuri(오늘이) is based on Woncheongang Bonpoori, one of the shman's songs in Jeju Island. According to the result of the comparison between the character of Oneuri and of Woncheongang Bonpoori, the contents in Oneuri have deleted the holy elements from the process of birth and settling down in the original text. The story of Oneuri was analyzed on the basis of the materials of teacher's guide. There are two differences between Oneuri and ‘Woncheon -gang’ Bonpoori. First, the meaning of ‘Woncheongang’ in the textbook is different from the original text's. The teacher's guide explains ‘Woncheongang’ as the place where four seasons gather. However, ‘Woncheongang’ should be viewed as a kind of the "Four Pillars" book and the four seasons, spring, summer, fall and winter, surrounding ‘Woncheongang’, refer to the four pillars which support one's fate. The other difference is a part where Oneuri was adopted and raised by Mrs. Baek. Since the greatness of myth or hero is acknowledged by standing the ordeal in the life of growing up, Oneuri needs to have starvation and hardships as well. Therefore, Oneuri's childhood would rather be described as wandering about from place to place than being adopted and grown up. In the case of 'the farmer making play with the hobgoblin', one of the folktales in the textbook, the hobgoblin is considered not familiar rather but malicious. In addition, several events in this story have not expressed the proper image of the traditional Korean goblin. It has to be considered that Korean goblins have stories matched with their images. On the basis of this contemplation, including Korean Traditional Tales in the elementary Koran textbooks has the following significances. First, children can have an opportunity to meet the fantasy and mystery of time and space. Another benefit is to deepen the recognition and diffusion of traditional culture. Last but not least, the original texts are able to be collected and reflected in the textbooks.
