중서부지역 통일신라 고분의 형성과 전개과정

국문 초록

본고의 목적은 그간 상대적으로 미진했던 통일신라시대 지방 고분의 형식 및 편년 등을 설정하고, 이를 통해 고분문화의 변화 양상 및 성격을 파악하는데 있다. 이를 위해 한반도 중서부 지방의 특정 고분으로 대상을 한정하여 검토해 본 결과, 통일신라의 지방 고분은 총 4단계로의 변화양상을 보이며 발전했음을 알 수 있다. 먼저 Ⅰ기는 아직까지 신라 후기의 전통이 남아 있는 시기이며, Ⅱ기는 전형적인 통일신라의 고분 문화가 형성되는 시기, Ⅲ기는 앞선 시기에 형성된 정형성이 퇴화되는 시기, Ⅳ기는 앞서 나타난 퇴화가 심화되는 가운데 고려시대 고분형식으로 이행되는 시기로 볼 수 있다. 이러한 단계별 변화 양상 속에 주목이 되는 특징으로는 매장풍습 측면에서 시신처리방법 및 다장에서 단장으로의 변화, 묘제 측면에서 대형고분의 소멸 및 묘제의 규격화로 요약할 수 있다. 이러한 변화의 원인으로는 그 시기에 있었던 유교의 도입 등으로 인한 사상계의 변화, 당과의 관계, 중앙집권의 강화 등이 영향을 미쳤음이 확인된다. 결국, 통일신라시대 지방에서 나타나는 고분 문화의 형성 및 변화는 당시 사회의 정치적·사상적 배경들이 복합적으로 작용하여 이루어진 것으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to identify formation and development of the regional grave systems in order to solve the problem which had not interested by any researcher until now. This study focused particularly on graves located in the Midwest area of the Korean Peninsula. From the resulting data, I concluded that the regional grave systems of the Unified– Silla could be categorized by four different periods. The first period was a step that burial tradition of latter Silla has lasted, and the second period is defined that a typical grave system was formed and standardized in terms of burial custom. In the third period, the definite form was decreased. And in the fourth period, a decline of the definite form was accelerated and transferred to Ko– ryo dynasty. The data shows us that there were two significant cultural changes. First, in the burial custom, there were changes in the methods of treating a corpse and the multi– death burial custom changed to the single– death burial custom. Second, in the grave mode, great graves disappeared and the grave system was standardized. These changes were influenced by Confucianism, cultural communication with Tang dynasty and centralization of the Royal power. The regional grave system of Unified Silla was influenced by its political and ideal background at that time.
