시각문화교육의 학습자 역량 강화에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

학습자 역량 강화와 학교별 자율적인 교과 시수 증감을 핵심으로 하는 미래형 교육과정의 윤곽이 드러나면서 미술 교육계에서는 우려의 목소리가 높아지고 있다. 이에 따라 주지교과 위주로 재편되는 학교 교육과정에서 미술과 교육의 목표와 정체성을 재검토해야 할 생존 차원의 요구가 대두되고 있다. 본 연구는 시각문화교육이 현재의 위기를 타개할 학교 미술교육의 방향이 될 수 있다는 판단 아래, 그것의 교육 철학적 배경을 탐구하고, 학습자 역량 강화에 어떻게 기여하는지 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 시각문화교육은 20세기 전반 듀이의 진보주의와 사회재건주의, 20세기 후반 프레이리의 비판교육학에 이론적 뿌리를 둔다. 이들의 교육철학은 생활 경험과 연관된 학습 내용, 학생이 주체가 되는 학습 방법 등 구성주의적 교육관을 바탕으로 한다. 시각문화교육은 이러한 철학을 바탕으로 다양한 시각문화에 대한 분석과 이해, 시각문화의 창조력 배양 등을 목적으로 한다. 이 과정에서 학습자는 분석력, 비판력, 종합적 사고력, 창의적 문제해결능력, 미적 감수성, 타자에 대한 이해와 공감 능력 등 미래 사회에 필요한 핵심적 역량을 기를 수 있다. 차후 미술교육은 그간의 장르 중심, 지식 중심의 미술교육에서 벗어나 이처럼 총체적인 삶과 연관된 시각문화교육으로의 확장을 모색해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

With disclosing the contents of ‘Future-oriented curriculum’ which make it important the ‘empowerment of students’ and the ‘self regulating curriculum’ permitting all schools can increase and decrease timetables of subjects, their arises art educators’ voice of worries. Consequently, there are rising the requests for inspecting the goals and identities of art education to the roots in the mechanism of school curriculum focusing the major subjects. The purpose of this study is inspecting the educational and philosophical backgrounds of ‘visual culture education’ as a new and desirable direction of art education which can overcome the crisis of art education nowadays. Visual culture education has the theoretical roots in Dewey’s progressivism, social reconstructionism, and Freire’s critical pedagogy. Their basic educational philosophy was constructivism which consider it very important, the curriculum related to students’ experiences and self- regulating studies. Visual culture education, based upon these philosophies, takes instructions analysing, synthesizing, and creating visual cultures. Within this course, students can cultivate their capacities of analysis, criticism, synthetical thinking, creative problem-solving, aesthetic sensitivity, understanding and sympathizing others, that are the core competencies required in future society. Art education from now on, has to switch from the genre-based art education, to the visual culture education related to whole life.
