국문 초록

이 연구는 지역사회의 자생적인 네트워크 구축과정 속에 나타나는 장애요인이 무엇인지를 분석하고, 네트워크 구축과정을 통해 집단학습의 의미를 탐색하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위하여 미국 필라델피아 벨몬트 지역사회의 자생적인 네트워크 구축 사례를 중심으로 질적 연구방법 중의 하나인 비판적 민속지학적 방법을 사용하였다. 연구결과 네트워크 구축과정에서 크게 세 가지의 장애요인이 나타났다. 첫째, 네트워크에 대한 서로 다른 참여수준으로 인해 모든 참여단체의 참여의지가 하향 평준화된다는 것이다. 둘째, 서로의 정체성과 다름을 인식하고 이해할 수 있는 진정한 공유의 장으로서의 사회적 공간이 부재했다는 점이다. 마지막으로 자금 및 자원과 같은 제한된 자원을 둘러싸고 나타난 네트워크의 참여단체들 사이의 상호경쟁으로 인한 갈등이다. 또한 연구 결과를 토대로, 학습을 사회적 과정으로 파악하기 보다는 인간행동의 가능한 한 결과물로 이해할 것을 제안하고 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze what factors come to be challenges and hindrances in constructing networks among community organization. This study also intends to explore the meaning of collective learning in the process of constructing networks. To achieve this purpose, I conducted a field research and analyzed case of networks among community organizations in Belmont community in Philadelphia with critical ethnography. Through my research, I found three factors that hinder the process of constructing networks. First, different levels of participation to networks downgraded all paticipants' intentions to join the networks. Second, there is no social places where participants was able to share organizational identity, challenges, and structural features in order to increase mutual understandings. Finally, conflicts among participants emerged because of limited resources. In this study, I argue that the learning can be considered as procesural outcomes of human activities that take the form of new and/or improved human operations rather than social process.
