한국 화교 사회의 위상변화

국문 초록

  한국도 다민족문화 사회로 접어들기 시작하였다. 이와 관련, 가장 오래되고 국내 최대 외국인 거주자 집단인 화교에 대한 심층적인 연구가 필요하다. 특히 재한 화교는 한국의 배타적 외국인정 책에 의해 그 위상이 높지 않았던 것으로 평가되어 왔다. 이러한 배경 하에 본 논문은 한중수교 및 외환위기 발생 이후 많은 여건이 변한 현재, 재한 화교사회에서 어떤 위상 변화가 나타나고 있는지를 주요 논의 주제로 하고자 한다. 이 논문은 화교를 대만계 전통화교로 정의하는 한편, 이들의 위상 변화를 인구 비중, 경제교류 비중, 저명인사 배출 비중, 그리고 TV채널 점유 비중 등을 지표로 삼아서 평가하고자 한다. 한중수교 이후 현재 국내에서 중국의 중요성은 월등히 신장되었으나 이는 국내 거주 화교사회의 위상변화로 연결되지 못했다고 평가한다. 결국 화교사회의 변모는 신화교와, 한국에 유학하고 있는 2만 명 이상의 중국계 유학생들이 어우러져 형성되는 범중국계 사회의 위상 재정립 과정에서 이루어 질 것으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

  Korea is unique known as suppressive policy against foreigners during state building since 1950s. Overseas Chinese was not exception in this regard. However, diplomatic normalization in 1992 between Korea and China has brought evaluation of overseas Chinese in Korea in diversified respects. In addition, overseas Chinese are seen differently with status changes of Chinese due to rapid economic development in the mainland. In line with this dynamic change, this paper will try to evaluate Overseas Chinese community in Korea basically from economic perspective. My preliminary hypothesis is that overseas Chinese in Korea is still outside the beneficiary of Sino-Korean diplomatic normalization due to their regional origin (Shandong province), low value added job distribution, and aging population lacking in usage of IT technology. Even though they are partially enjoy revival of Chinese school due to China boom in Korea, they are limiting their role in Korea as secondary to support settlement of new migrating Chinese since the diplomatic normalization, which is more concrete since Chinese WTO accession in 2001. It will be pursued by interviews with key overseas Chinese, data readings, and document collections based on published papers on this mater. A couple of Chinese town will be visited by author including Incheon, which is focal point since it is beginning point of Overseas Chinese settlement in Korea. In conclusion, we argue that status of Chinese community in Korea has not shown remarkable upgrade judging from index changes.
