국문 초록

  그 동안 파트너 적합도와 합작통제구조가 국제합작 성과에 주요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으나, 연구결과는 일관성을 띠지 못하고 있다. 그 이유 중의 하나는 합작 성과에 미치는 영향에 있어 파트너 적합도와 합작통제구조의 상호 작용성이 간과되어졌기 때문이다. 본 연구에서는 합작통제구조에 따라 파트너 적합도가 합작성과에 미치는 영향이 다를 수 있음을 제안하였다. 국내기업과 외국기업 간에 성사된 94개의 합작투자를 대상으로 분석한 결과 예상했던 대로 어느 일방에 의한 지배경영구조보다는 양측에 의한 공동경영구조 하에서 파트너 적합성이 합작성과에 미치는 영향력이 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석결과는 전략적 적합성, 자원보완성, 조직문화 양립성 등으로 대표되는 파트너 적합성이 높을 경우 지배경영구조보다는 공동경영구조가 합작성과에 더 유리함을 시사해 주는 것이다.

영문 초록

  Although it is well known that both interpartner fit and types of ownership structure play an important role in the performance of international joint ventures, its empirical results are not consistent. One of key reasons is that previous researches have ignored the interactivity between interpartner fit and ownership structure in their influences on performance. This paper tries to fill this gap. Based on the analysis of 94 joint ventures formed between Korean firms as a local partner and U.S., Western Europe, and Japanese firms as a foreign partner, it is found that the relationship between interparter fit and performance is greater in the case of the shared management ownership structure than in the case of the sole management structure. This result implies that companies should choose a right ownership structure according to interpartner fit(i.e., strategic fit, resource complementarity, and organization culture compatability) in order to increase the performance of international joint ventures.
