이순신 장군의 전략적 리더십

국문 초록

  본 연구는 이순신 장군에 대한 문헌을 탐색적으로 조사하여 이순신 장군의 23전 23승의 원인을 장군의 리더십에서 찾고자 하였다. 이순신 장군이 승리한 전략적 요인은 오늘날 기업 조직의 전략 수립을 위해 고려하는 핵심요소인 SWOT 분석에 정확하게 근거하고 있다는 것을 파악하였다. 문헌적 조사에 의하면 장군은 항상 적과 아군의 강점과 약점을 파악하도록 하였다. 적의 약점을 이용하고 아군의 약점은 보완하고 때로는 감추었다. 그리고 승리 가능한 기회를 지속적으로 탐색하였다. 동시에 관련 군관들과 작전회의를 하면서 예상되는 위험이 있는지 분석한 연후에 최종 전략과 전술을 수립한다. 그런 연후에 확신을 가지고 휘하 부하 장교들에게 이를 알리고 전 장병들에게 승리에 대한 자신감을 준다. 실제 전투가 벌어지면 최대한 단시간에 전광석화 같이 전투를 승리로 끝내고 더 이상 잔적 토벌을 위해서 시간을 낭비하지 않는다. 뒤이어 상벌에 대한 분명한 메시지가 주어지고 원대로 복귀하여 충분한 휴식을 취하게 하는데 착오 없을 정도로 치밀하였다.
  이러한 이순신 장군의 전략적 리더십은 오늘날 조직관리에 대해서 많은 시사점을 준다는 점에서 본 연구의 중요한 의미가 있다.

영문 초록

  General Lee, Soon Shin tried himself to save his country, ChoSun(朝鮮), and died in the naval battle in NoRyang(露梁海戰). The only thing he bestowed from his country was the government position. During the war against Japan(倭), he suffered from the absolute shortage of food and weapons, especially swords, spears, warship, etc. But he prepared for the war with the spirit of loyalty and love of the people, the philosophy based on principles, and the entrepreneurial spirit.
  The leadership of the general could be explained as strategic leadership. The strategy means the decision making in a long-term view. Moreover, the strategy could be basically explained as following; to make decision resulted from an accurate analysis of the internal and external factors.
  For example, internally, the general analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of his own troops. For strengths, he found that the warships of his navy were larger than those of Japanese, and his troops prepared cannons well. On the contrary, it was the weakness that the navy of Chosun was poor at swordsmanship. Therefore, his navy should be poor at the face-to-face battle and had better fight against Japanese at some distance.
  Next, he analyzed external strengths and weaknesses. The strengths what he found was that the navy of Chosun could take advantage of the landmarks such as terrains, waterways, etc. However, Japanese army already held the dominant position on the land so that it was difficult to battle; he found this weakness.
  The analyses mentioned above made the general and his navy win all the naval battles, which had no record of defeat.
  To sum up, the victories of the general and his navy were resulted from the strategic leadership of the general.
