국문 초록

  우리나라 최장수 잡지인《경향잡지》 연구는 곧 한국 잡지에 대한 연구이자 한국 천주교에 대한 연구이기도 하다. 창간 100년의《경향잡지》 연구는《경향잡지》 100년 역사의 의미를 찾아보고 새로운 전망과 비전을 제시하는 기회가 될 것이다. 그것은《경향잡지》뿐 아니라 한국 잡지와 한국 천주교에 대한 기회이기도 할 것이다.
  이를 위해 본 논고에서는, 먼저《경향잡지》의 역사와 내용과 외형에 대한 연구를 차례로 진행하고, 그 연구 결과에 따른《경향잡지》의 의의와 과제를 살펴보았다.
  현존하는 우리나라 최장수 잡지인《경향잡지》는 총 여섯 시기를 거치며 오늘에 이르고 있다. 즉, ‘제1기 보감 시대’(1906년 10월 ~ 1910년 12월), ‘제2기 통제 속의 성장기’(1911년 1월 - 1945년 5월), ‘제3기 혼란 속의 성숙기’(1946년 8월 ~ 1959년 6월), ‘제4기 정착기’(1959년 7월 ~ 1983년 12월), ‘제5기 발전기’(1984년 1월 ~ 2003년 12월), ‘제6기 원숙기’(2004년 1월 ~ 현재)를 거쳐 오늘에 이르렀고, 이제 새로운 100년을 위해 또다시 새로운 도정을 시작하려 한다.
  《경향잡지》의 내용을 연구한 결과,《경향잡지》는 지나온 100년 동안 이 땅의 교회와 사회에 그 살아온 세월만큼이나 지대한 영향을 끼쳐 왔음을 알 수 있었다. 교회를 향해서는 ‘신앙인의 백년지기’로서 목소리를 다해 왔으며, 사회를 향해서는 시대와 함께 울고 웃으면서 ‘백성의 백년지기’로서 목소리를 울려 왔음을 확인하였다.
  《경향잡지》의 외형을 연구한 결과,《경향잡지》는 시기별로 각기 다른 또는 유사한 편집디자인적 특징을 보여주면서 독자에게 친근하게 다가가는 ‘보는 잡지’로서의 발전을 계속적으로 꾀해 왔음을 확인할 수 있었다.
  이러한 연구 결과에 따른《경향잡지》의 의의는‘가톨릭의 긍지’ ‘신앙인의 길잡이’ ‘천주교인의 가교’ ‘시대의 목소리’ ‘인간의 목소리’ ‘한글 선도자’ ‘우리 것 지킴이’ ‘한국 잡지의 역사요 보고’ 등으로 정리할 수 있다.
  이와 함께《경향잡지》의 발전적 미래를 위한 과제로 ‘정체성 확립’ ‘반성과 회개’ ‘잡지 발전’ ‘적극적인 홍보와 마케팅’ ‘비전 제시와 실천’ 등을 제언하고자 한다.
  현존하는 우리나라 최장수 잡지인《경향잡지》에 대한 본격적인 연구가 처음으로 시도된 본 논고는, 이러한 시도 자체와《경향잡지》에 대한 최초의 실체적 접근 연구라는 점에서 적지 않은 의의를 지닌다. 또한《경향잡지》 100년 역사의 의미와 의의를 찾아보는 가운데 새로운 전망과 비전에 대한 본 논고의 제언이《경향잡지》 발전의 초석이되리라 기대한다.

영문 초록

  A study on《Kyeong Hyang magazine》, the longest-running magazine in Korea, has been performed. It is the study not only on Korean magazines but also on Korean Catholic. The study on《Kyeong Hyang magazine》, which was founded 100 yearsago, can be a good chance to find the meaning of the past 100 years publication history and to suggest the new prospect and vision. It can also be a significant opportunity for Korean magazine and Korean Catholic.
  For these objectives, this study focused on how the history, contents and outward forms of《Kyeong Hyang magazine》 have evolved. Based on its results, the meanings and tasks of the magazine were investigated.
  《Kyeong Hyang magazine》, the longest-running magazine in existence in Korea, has been classified into six periods; the first period of Bogam (October 1906 - December 1910); the second period of growing under controlled (January 1911 - May 1945); the third period of advanced among disorder (August 1946 - June 1959); the fourth period of settlement (July 1959 - December 1983); the fifth period of development (January 1984 - December 2003); the sixth period of maturity (January 2004 - present). It is poised for take-off for a new 100 years.
  It was noted that the contents of《Kyeong Hyang magazine》 has influenced greatly the Catholic church and the Korea society during 100 years. For the church it has been served as ‘believers’ friend’, and for the society as ‘people’s friend’ for 100 years.
  It was confirmed in this study that the outward forms of《Kyeong Hyang magazine》 have shown different or similar editorial design characteristics by each period developing as a ‘magazine attracting readers’ attention’.
  The meanings of《Kyeong Hyang magazine》 can be summarized to be ‘the pride of Catholic’, ‘a good guide of believers’, ‘a bridge of Catholic believers’, ‘the voice of the eras’, ‘the voice of human’, ‘the guide of Hanguel’, ‘the guide of Korean culture’, and ‘the treasure and history of Korean magazine’.
  Also, the prospective tasks are suggested to be ‘identity establishment’, ‘reflection and repentance’, ‘development of magazine’, ‘active public relations and marketing’, and ‘vision presentation and practice’.
  This study is the first investigation on《Kyeong Hyang magazine》, the longest-running magazine in existence in Korea. This study is also of great importance in that it is the first substantial approach study on《Kyeong Hyang magazine》. This study is also expected to lay down the foundation in《Kyeong Hyang magazine》’s development by investigating the meanings and significances throughout 100-years history and proposing new prospects and visions.
