국문 초록
본 연구에서는 Stock-Watson 방법과 통계청 방식으로 충청권 3지역의 선행지수를 실험적으로 작성하였다. 본 연구에서 얻은 주요한 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, Granger 인과관계 검정 결과를 이용해서, 충청지역 선행지수의 구성지표로는 소비재출하지수, 중공업생산지수, 중간재출하지수 및 주가지수를 사용하였다. 둘째, Stock-Watson 방법이나 통계청의 단순종합방식으로 작성된 선행지수는 미래의 경기에 대한 선행성이 비교적 높지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 향후의 연구에서는 다음의 사항이 보완되어야 할 것이다.
첫째, 지역별 경제구조를 잘 반영할 수 있는 다양한 월별 통계자료의 구축이 필요하다. 둘째, 충청권의 경기유형은 외환위기 이전과 이후에 크게 달라졌다. 따라서 외환위기 이전의 지역별 경기종합지수는 외환위기 이후의 순환적인 패턴을 포착하기가 어렵다는 문제가 있으므로, 이 문제를 해결하기 위한 시계열기법의 개발？활용이 필요하다. 셋째, 지역 경기종합지수에 대한 보완적인 지표들인 경기확산지수, 기업경기실사지수 및 소비자태도지수 등을 개발하여 경기종합지수와 병행해서 사용할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록
We construct leading indicators of Choongcheung province using Stock-Watson model and the method of National Statistical Office(NSO). The main empirical results obtained in this study are as follows:
First, according to the results of Granger casuality test, we employ the consumption good"s sale, output of heavy industry, intermediate good"s sale, and the KOSPI stock index in order to construct the leading indicators. Second, we find that the leading indicators estimated in the study show relatively poor performance in predicting the future business cycles for Choongcheung province.
In subsequent studies, we should try to improve the following things: first, more monthly statistics that can represent very well the structure of regional economies should be obtained with ease. Second, there happened the structural break during the financial crisis of 1997-98. Hence, we should develop more sophisticated econometric techniques which can deal with structural changes. Third, we need other compensating data-for example, consumer attitude, and business diffusion index-which can be used with the leading indicators.
