The objective of this research is to find out what effects the body composition of aged women has on their physical fitness and therefore to define the physiological meaning of the maintenance of ideal body composition in the era of advanced age. The research has been performed by measuring body composition and physical fitness of grouped women that are divided in terms of the age and analyzing the difference and the correlation of body composition and physical fitness.
The subject of study was that 58 aged women who have over 65-year-old were classified at 5 year intervals (65-69 years old: 18 persons, 70-74 years old: 14 persons, 75-80 years old: 15 persons, over 80 years old: 11 persons), and the body composition was measured by In Body 3.0 of which multiple-frequence used, and the physical fitness was surveyed by 10 items, so the result was as followed.
1. The body composition of aged women in groups of an age bracket had a difference of muscle volume(㎏), waist-to-hip ration(%) in the abdomen, manifold free fat mass(㎏), total body water(ℓ), however, there was no different in the rate of %fat(%) and in the fat mass(㎏).
2. In the physical fitness of aged women, there had difference of muscle strength, power(fastness), agility, and balance in groups of an age bracket, but there had not any difference in flexibility.
3. The body composition of aged women had influence on the physical fitness.
1) Muscle volume(㎏) had positive effects on muscle strength and flexibility of aged women.
2) The rate of body fat(%fat) had negative influence on muscle strength, flexibility, and balance of aged women.
3) Fat mass(㎏) had negative influence on muscle strength, flexibility, power(fastness), balance of aged women.
4) Waist-to-hip ratio(%) in the abdomen(%) had negative effects on even muscle strength and balance of aged women.
5) Free fat mass(㎏) had affirmative influence on muscle strength and flexibility of aged women.
6) Total body water(ℓ) had negative effects on power(fastness), agility and balance of aged women.
This study will be informative to reveal the relations between aged women"s body composition and physical fitness, to have physiological significance of ideal maintenance of physical body composition in the group of aged women.
