영문 초록
The study examines the moral significance of Non-Doing of Laotzu from the perspective of moral practice both as an individual norm and social norm and through which further presents some suggestions to contemporary educational issues in home education, school education and social education. The study shows the following findings:
Firstly, decent personality basically is cultivated in home education through various educational elements peculiar to home. As the basic personality is formed in home education, the most natural form of education, it is quite necessary to pay attention to the moral and practical significance of Non-Doing, the core of the teachings of Laotzu. When those virtues of tenderness, non-fighting, humbleness, being beneficial to everything, etc. are sublimated to the traditional morality, children can learn the modest and altruistic spirit. Those virtues, for sure, are the remedies for the selfishness and loss of morality in contemporary society.
Secondly, current school education is centered on transferring knowledge and encouraging competition, thus neglecting moral education. As moral practice is hardly emphasized, it is fairly natural that humanity and morality decline as time goes by. Those virtues of innocence and continence may be the moral and practical objective of moral education in school.
Thirdly, on the social and ethical dimension, Laotzu laid stress on "governing by Non-Doing" for the realization of ideal community with a relatively smaller size of territory and population. "Returning to infancy", "returning to original unity", and "returning to innocence" all are considered to be the guidance to eternal virtues that every human community should accomplish for the realization of human community based on the innate human nature. As contemporary society is suffering from the absence of morality and morally practical objective, the teachings of Laotzu"s Non-Doing is a possible alternative to the impotent educational practice.
