영문 초록

  The purpose of this study is to evaluate a district environmental revitalization project by means of citizen participation in case of Japan. Points in common shared by such projects in SHONAI, MANO, TAISHIDO, KITAZAWA, HIGASHI-IKEBUKURO, and KYOJIMA are as follows.
  First, a moving away from the traditional position of the citizen as a passive participant, to a method emphasizing active involvement through meetings and planning reflecting their participation.
  Second, their is a lack of previous experience, thus each project is somewhat of an experiment.
  Finally, differing points of view, on the parts of local government and citizens respectively, are expressed and learned through methods such as seminars and lectures, as well as through community meetings.
  And second, the aim of this research is to introduce methodology of Korea, as to analysis Built up areas revitalization project in case of Japan.
  As a result of analysis the following became evident.
  First, priorities need to be set at reorganizing and overcoming the present scrap and build philosophy resulting from top-down politics into a more flexible community environmental amelioration system.
  Second, systemization for efficient use of public funds and personnel is highly necessary.
  Third, an educating program for residents in and around the project areas needs to be put into motion to promote participation as well as educate about community planning.
  Fourth, citizen participation should be voluntary in order to be effective.
  Finally, this  research concludes in proposing that a firm stance be held in improving not only the physical environment but also in terms of community welfare and cultures, and proposing an integration of a variety of specialized fields.
