게임이론에 기초한 입시과외 수요 분석

국문 초록

  본 연구의 목적은 입시과외행위를 설명하기 위한 지식체계로서 대입과외게임의 이론모형을 개발하고 제한종속변수(Limited Dependent Variables)방법을 사용하여 입시과외수요를 추정함으로써 과열과외 해소를 위한 정책 수립시 기초자료를 제공하는 것이다.
  분석도구는 사교육비 실태조사에 관한 선행연구에 사용된 설문지를 참고로 하여 연구자가 작성했고, 서울, 경기도, 일부 광역시 및 중소도시에 소재한 인문계 고등학교 37개교를 표집대상으로 삼았다. 2005년 3월 23일-4월 9일에 설문을 배포했고, 최종분석에 사용된 설문지는 2829부였다.
  연구결과는 첫째, 경제적 변수인 월평균 총소득과 시간당 과외비가 입시과외수요에 유의미한 영향을 주었고 둘째, 학부모의 과외선호도와 전략적 의사결정수준을 나타내는‘한 등급 높은 대학 진학시 추가 과외비 지불의사’, ‘경쟁학생 중 과외를 받는 학생의 예상비율’, ‘가상의 대입과외게임에서의 선택전략’이 입시과외수요에 유의미한 영향을 주어, 이론모형에서 제시된 바와 같이 입시과외행위가 상대방의 행동을 고려한 전략적 의사결정임을 확인하였다. 셋째, 고학력, 서울, 강남지역 학부모들은 그렇지 않은 학부모에 비해 입시과외수요가 높았다. 넷째, EBS수능강의가 입시과외수요 감소에 긍정적인 영향을 주었다. 다섯째, 비평준화 및 특수목적 고등학교 학생의 입시과외수요가 평준화, 일반계 고등학교 학생의 수요보다 낮았다.
  이상의 연구결과에 근거하여, 결론에서는 정부의 입시과외수요 경감정책인 EBS 수능강의의 고정적인 수요층 확산을 위한 후속조치 및 학교선택권의 적극적인 검토를 제안하였다.

영문 초록

  The purpose of this study is to develop the theoretical game model of private tutoring(referred to as PT hereafter) for preparing the college entrance exams and analyze the demand for PT through a variety of models selected depending on the characteristics of dependent and independent variables. By estimating the various models of regressions with 2829 sample observations, following conclusions were found.
  First, the demand for PT was associated with the economic factors such as the family income and the price of PT and it was the typical Engel-Type consumption demand model.
  Second, the demand for PT was affected by the parents" strategic decision making levels according to the fact that the strategic variables, such as the expectation of the number of students who are taking the PT, the amounts of willingness to pay for PT when their children make a better Scholastic Aptitude test score as much as to enter the more prestigious colleges and the parents" choice of strategies under the circumstance of the assumed game which is related to the college entrance exams.
  Third, socio-economic variables, especially residence area that may be total proxy variables for income and educational levels of parents, affected demand for PT that could be explained as the club effect.
  Fourth, television broadcasting lectures from the EBS(Education Broadcasting System) turned out to be a positive factor to decrease the demand for PT.
  Fifth, Demand for PT of the students at general high schools was greater than the students at high schools with special purposes. In addition, students at high schools in levelled areas have a greater demand than the students at high schools in unlevelled areas. Following works to spread the prospective customers of the television broadcasting lectures from EBS and the acceptance of school choice system are suggested as the appropriate policies in conclusion.
