국문 초록

조선후기 영남지방의 전통 지역체계는 왕도와 외방의 관계에 초점을 둔다면 수직적 연계가 두드러지지만 지역 내부로는 생활권 중심의 수평성이 뚜렷하였다. 공간의 차별이 강조된 근대형 지역구조는 도시화, 상업화, 공업화, 교통발달이 일체로 진행된 일제시대에 구현되었다. 크리스탈러의 행정, 상업, 교통 3대 중심 기능에 입각해 영남지방 지역체계의 변천을 분석한 결과, 행정중심지로 기능하던 관아도회는 성장, 지속, 신생, 재기, 쇠퇴의 다양한 과정을 거쳐 행정도시로 거듭나거나 신흥도시에 밀려 구읍으로 쇠퇴하였고, 시장거래액의 표준편차와 최근린지수의 시기별 변동에 드러나듯 상업기능의 계층분화와 시장의 균등분포를 유도하는 공간원리의 작용이 두드러졌으며, 중앙집권 요구에 부응하기 위해 하향성이 강조된 전산업시대의 교통체계는 내륙의 전략거점과 해안의 수출항을 잇는 도로, 철도, 수로, 해로의 연결망으로 재편되어 식민지 경영의 기간설비로 활용된 사실을 확인하였다. 행정, 상업, 교통의 중추기능지역으로 성장한 부산은 지리적 중심으로서 내륙을 관리한 대구와 함께 영남지방의 다극체계를 양극체계로 바꾸어 놓았다.

영문 초록

The regional systems of Gyeongsang Province from the late 18th century through the Japanese Rule had experienced a sea change from the traditional type characterized by horizontality and Confucianism-driven moral economy to the modern capitalist one featuring hierarchical patterns and spatial differentiation. Urbanization, commercialization and transportation development gained a momentum during the Japanese colonial period, adding a modern tint to the traditional systems of Yeongnam vernacular region. Administrative centers were either integrated into layered systems of cities or receded into the remnant of heritage towns. A statistical calculation of standard deviation and nearest neighborhood index testified the consolidation of hierarchical gradation among periodic markets and the tendency toward a regular distribution. The network of roads which used to supplement centralizing efforts of the Court was rearranged to facilitate the unequal exchanges between Japan and Colonial Korea. The reconfiguration of socioeconomic situation added up to the shaping of modern regional systems of Gyeongsang Province centering on the pivots of Busan and Daegu.
