영문 초록

Geo-jeong Seo(徐居正;1420~1488) was an eminent literary man in the early Jo-seon(朝鮮) dynasty. At that time Chinese envoys officially visited Korea to test the capacity of versification of Korean literary men. First of all, a Chinese envoy composed a poem and a Korean replied. If the replied poem was poor a Chinese envoy sometimes ridiculed the Korean. However, Seo replied with expressions in novels and a Chinese envoy was overwhelmed. In addition, Seo attempted to compose a poem before Chinese. Although many people thought that Seo would be defeated by the Chinese envoy's superb reply, the Chinese envoy's reply had a ready-made appearance and the Chinese envoy admitted that his expression was not harmonized with the ambience. Many people also ridiculed Seo's defiant attitude. However, Seo's defiant attitude was caused by the China's unreasonable arrogance.
