영문 초록

A mountain fortress at Seongdong-ri(城洞里) is located in the key point which is able to go to the eastern sea through Cheolwon valley in the north, the Imjingang river valley in the west and the Hangang river valley in the south along the Youngpyeungcheon(永平川) rivulet and the Pocheoncheon (抱川川) rivulet. This fortress exposed the transition progress of four times including the Baekje's founding period of A.D. 3-5 century, the Goguryeo's southward expansion period of A.D. 5-6 century, the Silla's northward expansion period of AD 6-7 century and the Taebong(泰封) kingdom period of the second half of Silla kingdom period and the first half of Goreo kingdom period. In Hanseong period of Baekje kingdom. a mountain fortress at Seongdong-ri was an advance base and mountain fortress walls in Banwol and Gomo-ri were arranged toward the south and the north along the Pcheoncheon rivulet. According to the investigative result of relics which were excavated in the surrounding. this fOl1ress continued to exist from the middle of the third century to the first half of the fifth century, which mountain fortress stone wall was under construction in this times. In the Goguryeo kingdom, this fortress played an important role as traffic route from Cheolwon through Pocheoneheon to the Hangang river valley. Its evidence is the fragment of earthen ware which was excavated in Seongdong-ri and Aehasan mountain. In the Silla kingdom period, the mountain fortress wall at Seongdong-ri was the subsidiary fortress of the mountain fortress wall at 8anwol and the mountain fortress wall at Daejeon-ri and was similar to Gososeong fortress and the mountain fortress wall at Juwon-ri which were arranged along the Youngpyeungcheon rivulet and the Hantangang(漢灘江) river. In the Taebong kingdom period of the second half of Silla kingdom period and the first half of Goreo kingdom period, the mountain fortress wall at Seongdong-ri was closely associated with the legend of Gungye(弓??) which has been handed down in Pocheon, Yeuneheon and Cheolwon. In particuar. the building line of whinstone at the mountain fortress in Seongdong-ri was in accord with the legend of Gungye.
