국문 초록

본 연구는 COVID-19 이후 요양시설에서 거주하는 노인의 행복감에 대해 알아보는 질적사례연구이다. 이를 위해 대전 D요양원에 거주하는 노인 5명을 연구 참여자로 선정하여 심층면담을 실시하였다. 자료 분석 결과, COVID-19 이후 노인요양시설 노인의 행복감과 관련하여 43개의 개념, 13개의 하위범주, 4개의 범주가 도출되었다. 행복감의 경험은 크게 자율적 삶, 긍정적 지지관계, 영성, 삶의 통합으로 범주화 되었다. 첫째, 자율적 삶은 COVID-19 시기에 자신의 건강 챙기기, 외모를 단정하고 깨끗하게 가꾸기, 부모로서의 역할 감당하기로 나타났다. 둘째, 긍정적 지지관계는 만족스런 자녀관계, 친밀한 동료와의 관계, 의지하는 직원과의 관계로 나타났다. 셋째, 영성은 삶의 의미 및 목적이 있는 삶, 감사, 공동체감, 낙관성으로 나타났다. 넷째, 삶의 통합은 과거의 수용, 현재의 수용, 죽음의 수용으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과는 COVID-19 기간에 고위험 시설인 요양시설에 거주하며 자신의 행복을 지켜 낼 수 있었던 심리적 보호요인을 제시하였다는 데에 큰 의의가 있다고 할 수 있겠다.

영문 초록

This study is a qualitative case study on the happiness of the elderly living in nursing facilities after the COVID-19 pandemic. For this purpose, we selected five elderly people living in the D nursing facility in Daejeon as research participants, and conducted an in-depth interview. The data analysis yielded 43 concepts, 13 subcategories, and four categories, related to the happiness of the elderly in nursing facilities after the COVID-19 pandemic. The factors leading to happiness were largely categorized as autonomous life, a positive support relationship, the spirituality, and the integration of life. Autonomous life was further divided into three sub-categories-taking care of one’s own health, keeping one’s appearance tidy and clean, and fulfilling one’s role as a parent during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, the positive support relationship translated into three aspects-a satisfactory relationship with one’s children, a close relationship with one’s colleagues, and a co-dependent relationship with one’s employees. Spirituality was categorized into four sub-factors-life with meaning and purpose, gratitude, a sense of community, and optimism. Similarly, the integration of life was reflected by three aspects-acceptance of the past, acceptance of the present, and acceptance of death. These research results suggest psychological factors to ensure one’s happiness while living in a high-risk facility, a nursing facility, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
