국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 아리스토텔레스의 ‘프로네시스’(phronesis) 개념을 통하여 지혜의 의미를 개념적으로 분석하는 데 있다. 그 결과, 프로네시시의 핵심 의미요소로서, 총체, 상황, 행위를 발굴해 내었다. 3가지 의미 요소를 가지고 프로네시스를 정의하면 다음과 같다. 프로네시스는 지금 직면하고 있는 상황 속의 예상되는 행위와 관련하여, 총체로서의 마음이 순간적으로 시의적절하게 발현되는 통찰이다. 본 연구의 의의는 동양의 중용((中庸) 개념을 도입하여 프로네시스의의미를 보다 분명하게 만들었다는 점에서 찾아질 수 있다. 본 연구는 중용(中庸)과 자연(自然) 개념을 도입하여 ‘어떻게 프로네시스가 이론과 실제의 간극을 극복하는지’에 대하여 해명해 주었다. 본 연구는 프로네시스가 교육에 어떤 함의를 가질 수 있는가를 탐색하는 과정에 반드시 요구되는 프로네시스의 의미 구조와 개념을 확보하는 차원에서 선행적으로 이루어졌다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to conceptually analyze the meaning of wisdom through Aristotle's concept of ‘phronesis’. As a result, wholeness, situation, and behavior were discovered as the core meaning elements of phronesis. The definition of phronesis with three semantic elements is as follows. Pronesis is an insight in which the mind as a whole is expressed in a timely manner in relation to the expected behavior in the current situation. The significance of this study can be found in that it made the meaning of phronesis clearer by introducing the concept of ‘中庸’ in the East. This study introduced the concepts of ‘中庸’ and ‘自然’ to explain “how phronesis overcomes the gap between theory and practice.” This study was conducted in advance in order to secure the semantic structure and concept of phronesis that is essential in the process of exploring what implications phronesis can have for education.
