국문 초록

본 연구에서는 고양이에 대한 생물학적 특징을 살펴보고 우리나라 고전이나 민담, 신화, 종교에서 나타나는 상징성을 살펴본 후, 성인 여성의 모래놀이사례에서 나타나는 고양이의 상징적 의미를 탐색해 보았다. 고양이는 신성성, 민첩성, 의로움, 행운, 여성성, 장수(長壽), 치유자, 독립성과 자유의 상징성이 있으며 모래놀이상자에서 다양한 상징으로 표현되는데 본 연구에서는 3명의 여성을 대상으로 살펴보았다. 먼저 여성성을 회복하여야 하는 30대 여성은 통과의례를 거치면서 오랫동안 쌓아 온 감정적인 문제들을 해결하였고, 40대 여성은 모든 결정을 부모님과 언니들에 의해 좌우되는 과정에서 억압되었던 감정을 표현하면서 남에게 의존하지 않고 스스로 할 수 있다는 자신감을 갖게 되었다. 중년의 위기를 겪고 있는 50대 여성은 미분화된 여성성을 해결하고 자신의 길을 가는 개성화 과정을 보여 주었다. 연구 결과를 토대로 다양한 연령층으로 일반화하기에는 한계가 있지만 여성성 회복이라는 공통점을 보여 주었으며 고양이 상징성에 대해 전반적인 이해를 돕는 것에 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

In this study, we examined the biological characteristics of cats, looked at the symbolism of Korean classics, folk tales, myths, and religions, and explored the symbolic meaning of cats in adult women's sand play cases. Cats have symbolism of divinity, agility, righteousness, luck, femininity, longevity, healer, independence, and freedom, and are expressed as various symbols in the sand play box, and in this study, three women were examined. First, women in their 30s who needed to restore femininity solved emotional problems that had long been built up through the rite of passage, and women in their 40s became confident that they could do it on their own without relying on others, expressing feelings that had been suppressed in the process of all decisions being dictated by their parents and sisters. Women in their 50s who are experiencing a crisis in middle age showed the process of individualization by solving undifferentiated femininity and going their own way. Based on the research results, there is a limit to generalizing to various age groups, but it has shown commonality of restoring femininity and is meaningful in helping to understand cat symbolism in general.
