국문 초록

국제화 물결에 따라 최근 국내 대학에 외국인 유학생이 급증하고 대부분의 대학들이 다문화에 대한 인식이나 이해를 기초로 한 교육이 이루어지지 않은 채 유학생을 유치하다보니 캠퍼스 내에 백인지향, 영어지향의 편향된 문화인식이 팽배해 다문화 수용성에 대한 논의가 필요하다는 의식에 기초하여 본 연구는 충북지역 대부분의 대학생들이 외국인 유학생들과 기숙생활을 하는 특징을 살펴 이들의 다문화교육경험이 다문화에 대한 사회적 거리감과 다문화수용성간의 영향관계를 조사했다. 그 결과 대학생들의 다문화교육경험은 다문화에 대한 사회적 거리감과 영향관계가 있으며, 이는 다문화 수용성과 상관관계가 있음이 확인되었다. 이러한 연구결과는 한민족정체성이 다문화에 대한 사회적 거리감을 높여 대학생들의 다문화수용성에 영향을 미칠 수 있기에 다문화에 대한 형식적 및 비형식적 교육경험의 중요성을 확인하였으며, 다문화교육은 타자를 이해하고 또한 타자와의 소통을 추구하는 노력을 전제로 삼아야 하며, 타문화에 대한 이해와 존중으로 한국의 다문화사회를 이룩해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The recent of internationalization in many Korean universities has resulted in a rapid rise in the number of foreign students, yet most universities are inviting foreign students without receiving proper training on perceptions and understanding for other cultures to result in a rise in Caucasian-oriented or English-oriented cultural perceptions. Under the belief that discussions on multicultural acceptance are necessary, this study investigated the characteristics of dorm life of university students in the Cheongbuk region with foreign students and investigated the influencing relationships between their multicultural education experience with social distance and multicultural acceptance. Results show that the multicultural education experience of university students has an influencing relationship on social distance for multiculturalism, which was shown to have a correlation with multicultural acceptance. Such study results indicate that Korean ethnic identity can increase social distance for multiculturalism and have an effect on multicultural acceptance of university students. Such results demonstrate the importance of formal and informal educational experiences. Multicultural education must be based on efforts to understand or communicate with others while Korean multicultural society must be achieved based on understandingand respect for other cultures.
