문화재 지표조사에서 일제강점기 자료 활용법 - 창원지역 유적 사례를 중심으로 -

국문 초록

최근 각 국가기관마다 조선총독부박물관 소장 유적 발견 문서, 일제강점기·현대 지적도와 항공사진, 지도를 아카이브 방식으로 공개하고 있다. 공개된 자료 중 일제강점기 자료는 본격적인 국토개발이 이루어지기 전에 작성된 것으로, 비교적 원 지형에 대한 정보를 자세하게 파악할 수 있다. 하지만 지금까지 문화재 지표조사에 실제로 활용되는 사례는 적었다. 따라서 본고에서는 최근 『文化遺蹟分布地圖-昌原市-』 제작을 위한 지표조사 사례를 바탕으로, 문화재 지표조사에 적용할 수 있는 일제강점기 자료의 활용방법에 대해 살펴보았다. 일제강점기 자료 조사 및 검토를 통해서 현장조사에서 유적을 새롭게 찾은 사례와 조사의 한계, 앞으로의 지표조사의 방향을 제언하고자 한다. 창원지역 문화재 지표조사에서 일제강점기 자료를 활용하여 수풀에 덮여 있거나, 개발로 사라진 지역, 기존 조사에서 정확하게 위치를 알 수 없던 일부 유적의 경우 구체적인 위치를 파악할 수 있었다. 또한 문화재 분포 가능구역으로 설정된 구역 중에서 원지형이 남아있는 곳을 중심으로 유적을 확인할 수 있었다. 지표조사의 한계를 극복하기 위해 앞으로 진행될 지표조사 및 고도화 사업에서 기록자료가 적극적으로 활용되어야 할 것이다. 특히, 일제강점기에 발간된 자료를 활용한다면 지표조사의 사각지대를 줄일 수 있고, 유적에 대한 구체적인 내용을 서술할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Recently, Governments are opening up archived documents, maps and aerial photographs of the Japanese colonial periods. The materials from Japanese colonial periods are collected before the government’s territorial development plan and enable us to investigate the original topographic features of the area in great detail. However, only few cases are known by usage of those materials in investigation of cultural heritage surface survey. Thus, this paper discusses the application methods of materials generated in Japanese periods in literature review before a fieldwork of cultural heritage surface survey. Based on the recent case of surface survey for 『文化遺蹟分布地圖-昌原市(THE SITE MAP OF CHANG-WON)』 production, this paper introduces the case where new relics were excavated due to usage of materials from Japanese colonial period, along with addressing limitation and direction of future investigation. As a result of cultural heritage surface survey in Changwon region, it was unable to pin down exact locations of relics in the cases of which if they were covered with bushes or the region where relics were located went through renovation from development plan. However, utilizing the excavation documents from the Museum of Japanese Government General of Korea and land register and aerial map of Japanese periods, it was possible to pinpoint location of relics. Moreover, additional living relics and burial remains such as ancient tombs were discovered in the area were original terrain was identified and defined as high possibility of burial remains from maps and aerial photographs of Japanese periods. In further cultural heritage surface survey and advance work, the application of materials generated in Japanese colonial periods will reduce blind spot of the work, and enable us to find specific locations of relics.
